Sun Shine Mix #4 Users....I have some questions

I am about to switch from ocean forest to either sunshine mix #4 or the #2 mix. The #2 seems to have little less perlite and there is not nutes added to it.

The questions I have are how often do you have to water with this soil compared to ocean forest? I was watering every 4-7 days depending on the stage of growth and temps with the ocean forest. I wouldn't mind watering like every 3 days at the most, but I don't want to have to water any more often than that.

The #4 mix is not set up for a daily watering or anything is it? If it drains and dries too fast I will be getting the #2 mix which has like 10-15% more peat in it.

If any one has used either the #4 or #2 mix, any tips or info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

I water at every 4-5 days till about half way thru flower and then 2-3 till finish. I've started adding more perlite to the mix as I don't like to keep the lady's to wet on the outer bits of rootless soil

i use sunshine # 4 and i will NEVER change to a different soil,,, during the early veg stage i am watering every 1-3 days,,,, middle to late veg i am watering about every 2-5 days depending on pot size and how much water you are giving them per feeding... and during early flower i can get away with 3-5 days again depending how much you are feeding them per feeding,,,,and mid to late flowering i can get away with 5-7 days again depending on how much water and nutes you give them during flowering the more you give them in any stage of growth the longer they will take to dry out,,and for me i usually roid my girls right out and do a bit of the starve method and i get AMAZING yeild,,,, during all these stages my temp is at the 23-26 when lights are on and 15-20 when lights are off....humidity is around 50-65.. never higher than 65 humidity

check out some of my plants in my started threads there are tons of pics from 3 shows of purple kush and all medical grows for my back

HAPPY GROWING

Thanks for the reply.

I am a little lost as to why you can water less at the end of flower than you do in early flower. When I am at the end of flower I have to water more often because the pots are filled with roots. During early flower I don't have to water as often because there is less root mass.

I plan on using 3gal pots. What size pots do you use and how much water do you usually run through each pot? I use about 2/3-3/4 of a gallon per 3gal pot. Does this seem about right for the #4 mix as well? My room stays about 80degrees at the pot level and about 85degrees at the canopy with a humidity of about 50%. Thanks again for the help.

Anybody else use this stuff? I will take all the input I can get.

everything sounds right around where my box is for temp and humidity.. and i also use the #3 pots same as you are planning on useing... but the reason for why i get away with so little watering is cuz during the early stages when there is less roots i dont feed them as much as late flowering in early stages when less roots just enough untill the water drips out the bottom.. and i mean drip out not poor out... and when they are full of roots in later flowering i really really really roid them out.....like during the early stage of flowering i feed them about the same as you do 2/3 - 3/4 of a gallon...but during later flower i water them a lot more so thats why it takes so long for mine to dry out roots have a lot more NUTES so absorb... and in doing this i have never over watered a plant even to the point where it is drooping and will never kill one (unless its MALE) and get amazing yeilds every grow....i do landscape for a living aswell and have takin the horticulture course so that helps A LOT with growing :)

Thanks for the explanation. That seems reasonable. I have a degree in environmental horticulture, and I will tell you it helps out a ton. There is nothing like knowing the actual science behind something versus just hear say from stoned growers lol.
