I have been reading threads all day and was wondering if I can use ss in anything smaller than 5-7 gal pots can it work in 2.5 or even 3 gal pots?

imho, 3 is about the smallest you want to go for it to work to its potential.....as far as flowering in such a small pot....it works great at the right % to veg plants in small containers before transplanting into their larger flower pot...... i think you would be asking alot of it to carry a plant all the way through its cycle with such a small volume of soil....

...that being said, these bonzais were run in 5 gal....water only....but they were only 15 inches tall.......smaller pot....smaller plant......there is a reason why growers in the know use 7 and 10 gal. pots with super soil....because it works really well with that size, on an average veg and flower schedule for an average indo application.....nugs

My last grow, I used 3, gallon pots, gowned them for 4 months, and plants where not root-bound at all.

For indoor 3, gallons is what I would use. They work great.I can see using 5 gallons, if you can't water every other day or three.

Nugbuckets not sure I have the room for 5 gal buckets in the space I grow in. Would be way more primo in 3's couldn't I add ss in the later weeks of flower ?

Hey nugbuckets how many ladies can I get in a 8x8 tent using 5gal buckets? I have (4)600's in there and would like to know what is going to be best for them in terms of spacing? Thanks bro for ur input

Outdoors here have been my results so far:

1) seedling in 1 gallon pot burnt to shit lol

2) seedling in 3.5 gal very healthy but is now root bound

Everything else is just looking healthy exept my Alaskan ice who are in abou 10 gallon holes. But I think those will catch up.

I have one in a 7 gallon that may root bound before harvest (but hopefully provides for a little fade and smooth smoke)

I have also been thinking on growing in 3 gallon pots, with 1 month of veg in supersoil instead of the 45-60 days, just to look for phenotypes from seeds, isnt this doable? to start in 3 gallon pots with 16 plants in a 4 x 4 room and transplant when they show sex after the second week of flowering? or whenever im shure of the sex really. i was originally thinking 20 plants in 1 gallon pots and then go over to 3 gallons when they showed sex but maybe this is too much in a 4 x 4? im gonna try to grow for my first time here so im a noob but would have been great to have the option to get some nice phenos!

Hey nugbuckets made my ss yesterday. If all goes well should be done w current grow right in time when my soil should be ready so I shouldn't lose anytime. Do you feel like smart pots are worth the hype? Or just use reg 5 gall buckets? Thanks bro

smarties kick ass....but remember, they will use 1 1/2 to 2 times the ammount of h2o through the cycle, so you would want to consider making an adjustment on your N ratio, to combat the extra leaching.....i have started to play with a N fixing bacteria, but it is still in the testing phases......i have used 5 gal smarts, and they will out perform buckets if you can be diligent about your watering, and never let them wilt and stress.....i think the advantages grow as you move up in volume...i like 7's for indo, 10's for small (under 3 feet mainlined) for greenhouse, and biggins' for outside........i used to be all about buckets...hence my name....but i am all about smarts now.......but again, you have to be on top of your game, if you want them to perform....

Nugbuckets it's crazy I've got about 36 in 1 gal right now so I've been crazy diligent on my water schedule now so really don't mind I love playing in my garden. Really appreciate the advice hopefully my end product will look like some of your grows. Been on your thread now for 2 days just reading and have learned a lot

you can certainly try, i would keep them small though........then the next run try 5's and compare total yield....when i first started i used roots and liquids, and could only get 2 zips max in 3's...then i used 5's for a long time, and averaged 3 zips.... now i use 7 gal smarts with super soil only, and average 5-7....
