I have had peat based mixes give pH's in the 5's and in the 8's and they were supposed to be in the 6's so you never know until you test the soil.
The bluelab soil pH pen is a good tool as it measures pH of soil and liquids. Make sure to get some KCl storage solution for it. If you get one make sure to poke the hole with the probe cover and then gently insert the probe into the hole and wait about 30 seconds for it to stabilize.
You could try adding some epsom salt, a little won't hurt unless you are already at a high PPM. It could also be that your overall feed is just too low on the PPM so an EC meter is handy there.
