Tap water as temporary cal mag? baby jesus help my plant

Calcium nitrate is the key to hydroponics. Not owning if you grow hydroponically seems outright silly to me. A 50 pound bag costs 30 bucks.

Calcium chloride is the only other highly soluble calcium salt, but like observe & report said, it's undesirable because of the chlorides.

Are you saying Calcium Acetate has chlorides? From what I can tell, Calcium Acetate is soluble, used by organic growers. Just the accelerated result of what happens in soil to calcium carbonate?

Nope, I think calcium chloride was only mentioned hypothetically. The stomach acid in our stomachs dissolves calcium phosphate and calcium carbonate and gives calcium chloride, which is available for absorption. Calcium chloride is for animals.

In the last year I did a few tests with calmag to see if it would 'help' even though I've never seen a cal or mag deficiency with any plant food I've ever used. I saw no difference. My conclusion is that if your water is near pure and your plant food already contains calcium and magnesium, forget the bottles of calmag.

Why not just get some magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts) and very fine dolomite lime?

Is dolomite water soluable? I've got some very fine (flour consistency) calcitic lime. Also some sand-texture dolomite. I can try it and see if I get any ppms from them.

Not soluble but the finer it is the faster it'll break down and easier to mix in water. Epsom salts should be about tsp per 5 gal

this is a test. Not bad. Seems to be working better. not as jerky.

Using dolomite that way sounds problematic because it will essentially be slow release (as it would be if amended into the soil). Additionally, epsom salt would added which is fast acting -- while the dolomite will add slow release mg.
