LOL yeah burned nuts are no good, I just have a buddy that moved to hydro and has two plants that drinks up to 3 gallons a day but there 2footers, he had them in a 20gallon then they drank up and two days later its at 10gallons ph is way to low and the feeding solition is double the amount.

OK, keep this to an R rating ;)

I like tight, but am working on a way to keep it cool. I'm going to separate the cabinet and create a chamber for the HID light that will have it's own ventilation. A shelf with a glass partition will be between the light and the plants. I'm about to install a second fan in the lower chamber to give the plants fresh air and leave the upper fan to ventilate the light chamber. My intake will lead directly to the light hood to force air over the light then into the chamber and outside the cabinet.

ADVICE PLEASE! Any certain type of glass I should be looking for that won't degrade the power of the light but be able to withstand the heat??? Also, doing this will essentially prevent me from raising and lowering the light... Will this cause much a problem since I plan on flowering these after less than a week of veg?
 
imo, a light directly on top of your cab is perfect placement. a little high for some, but it will ensure even spread and distribution.

as for glass, any glass will cut the amount of light intensity, but i think pyrex is the best. don't quote me on that :p

what kind of airpump did you get? pix?

Brilliant! I can cut a hole in the top of the cab, cover it with glass, place the bulb/reflector over the glass, seal around the light and ventilate directly through the reflector. Time to break out the saws! I love the smell of power tools in the morning ;)

you could double pane the glass for much much better insulation.. also if the fixed light ever becomes a problem you could build a movable shelf or just use cinderblocks to raise and lower your plants away and to the lights.

I wonder how much glass cuts down on light intensity..? I bet it is not much until it gets alot of dust on it...Any thoughts Mogie? I figured when the talk of double pane came up, that it would be a good topic of discussion...

pyrex is about 8%, other types of glass cut more... all in all though, 10-15% decrease for closer placement and no temp probs is a fair trade, imo.

tcg, do you need a blower fan? you'll never guess what i found today.... :p
 
Thanks for everybody's input!

I just measured from the top of the reservoirs to the top of the cabinet. It is 32.5". Dimensions of the hood are 15.5" long x 12.5" wide x 6" deep. I don't guess lifting the res's up onto cinder blocks will be much of an issue. I can drop them as I change res water.
 
Thanks NGT, Gygax1974. This is the first cabinet/room I've built where I had the right lights, materials, etc. Also, having a plan was a big help. Many thanks to many people on this project. This job will be complete tonight after I put the door hinges on and my 4 padlocks to keep it secure.

Next, I fix up my veg cabinet. Mylar, rewire my lights, build a reflector and a light raiser, etc. Then, I can fix up my other flowering room with mylar, added ventilation, 400hps, etc. I can't say enough about good ventilation. My new cab has a more powerful light than my other two, and it's temps are running 10-15 degrees f lower. Simply amazing.
 
and a smile breaks across my face when i see the wheels start turning.... :p

can't wait to see the "new and improved" veg room!
