in my grow tent the temp says 26.8 on hydro meter if I use my laser temp thermometer point it to the tips of the plants very top of the canopy its reading around 23-24
my question is witch do I go on the temp of the room or the temp of the tips on the canopy hope you understand what I mean cheers fellow stoners

It seems strange that the top/canopy is measuring cooler than the ambient temp. Although you are using two different thermometers which adds in a variable. I always go by canopy temp. Try measuring with the same thermometer in both locations to get a more consistent reading.

if I point the laser temp gun at the hydro meter it reads virtually the same within half of degree hence why I posted seems strange maybe one is faulty

got a spare digital thermometer so going to place it at top canopy see if the temp reads the same as the hydro meter or the laser thermometer gun and vise verser will see if I have a faulty meter then just placed it now so gona give it a bit to adjust to the temp

my 17 year old daughter may well have solved this issue glad she has brains
she simple said dad your reading the leaf temp with the gun and the air temp with the hydro meter maybe its that
and bingo a light went on in my head she has a valid point there

I use an indoor outdoor thermometer and attach the outdoor probe to the top of my tallest plant via twist tie or the like. This gives me ambient temp and canopy temp.

The leaf contains much more water than the air resulting in a cooler temp. The plant can also tell the difference from the temp of the air it breaths vs the temp of its canopy. You can get the canopy up to 100f sometimes! The ambient air? Not so much.
