TGA Nerds Help me choose my Space Jill male...

Whats up everyone,

Ive got 2 lovely Space Jill males growing from my 5 pack, and I would like to use one for a couple of crosses.

I cant really decide...

Both smell nice, but as you can see, one (on the right) is bigger and very bushy/fast growing, but has longer internode spacing.


The other (on the left) is smaller, slower growing, but much tighter all around.


Right now, I'm leaning towards the smaller tighter plant.


Should I flower them both, to see how the clusters look, or just go with my gut and cull the stretcher...?

you could just flower both out and get the pollen and store it till you find just the right female you wanna cross with and just get a paint brush and paint it onto the hairs

I am familiar with the process of creating seeds...

and I know the females I am going to cross.


I am looking for people with knowledge of Dominant vs. recessive male traits.

And was asking for help to decide whether I should be selecting for vigor, speed of growth, bushyness or internode structure.

personally i'd flower em both and go with the one i feel more confident in.
it all depends on how you want your cross to become.
its your creation.

Lots of determining factors... Do either show visible resin? Which one showed sex first? What does the stem rub smell like? Do the male stamine show capitate trichomes in flower? Those are a few factors that can help in the decision making process when looking for a breeder male. DUB

I would flower them out partly just to see which one flowers later (u want the latest flowering males which is usually the ones who pass on the most potency).

Also a strong smell from the stem rub is always a good thing. I personally would like a tighter node spacing than stretchy, but also look for any visible resin which is a good thing.

The biggest reason I wanted to ask is because the "tight" plant, dosent smell as strong as the big guy. But he is super stretchy and early, showed male pre flowers in veg...


I think I'll keep them both and give them a few more weeks.

Im going to be hitting pollen on an amazing sativa OG Dom Kandy Kush, a tight ass Jack Herer and a couple phenotypes from the female space jills that I have for some F2s.

Agreed. I've never bred anything personally, but my good friend has been breeding for a long time, and he currently has 2 males in veg. 1 has little pollen sacs forming and the other has fully opened and dusted the tent and is withering. He explained to me that he will get rid of the latter - just like Budologist420 suggested

I'd put my money on the one that was last to show sex.

it is really hard to tell when they are that young....their growth patterns can change dramatically when they enter flower....the little one may stretch like a mother fucker, and vice versa.....i would flower them both at least three weeks, that will give you an idea of the cluster formation, possible resin production, enhanced stem-rub, hermaphaditic tendencies and overall structure including stretch and stem rigidity....by not feeding them, by the end of the three weeks you will know which one requires more food etc.....the only real way to choose a male is to take the time to flower them out imo....

....it makes no sense to me to not give your breeder a mere few weeks to prove that he is worth breeding with......just imagine how much time, resources, and energy would be wasted if your choosen male (picked early) had some herm tendencies that express late in flower that you missed, so you invest another 10-12 weeks growing out it's F-1's only to have to abort the whole grow because of it.....F-1's are only valuable if both parents are proven...if not, you may as well be growing out bag seed (having no idea where and who the male was)......good luck bro!...nugs
