Background:

Gov. Kate Brown called lawmakers back to Salem days before Christmas to extend the state’s eviction moratorium, create a compensation fund for landlords and allocate more money for the state’s COVID-19 response and wildfire recovery work. Lawmakers are also considering proposals to shield schools from coronavirus lawsuits, allow restaurants and bars to sell to-go cocktails and cap the delivery fees they pay to third-party platforms.

It was a one-day emergency session to address funding gaps for measures in response to the epidemic.

Outside, right wing gangs gathered and showed everybody exactly what kind of thugs they are:

Several dozen protesters gathered Monday morning outside the Capitol as part of a “nonpermitted flash mob” against COVID-19 restrictions.

Demonstrators clashed with law enforcement officers outside the building as the session got underway, according to reports from the scene. Some were able to enter the building, which is closed to the public because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but were contained to a vestibule.


Two people who remained in the vestibule despite warnings from law enforcement — Ronald Vanvlack, 75, and Jerry Dyerson, 53 — were arrested on suspicion of criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct, according to the Oregon State Police.


Another demonstrator, 41-year-old Ryan Lyles, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful use of mace and being a felon in possession of body armor, troopers said.

The crowd later tried to get into the Capitol through a door on the west side of the building, troopers said. A window on the door was broken, according to troopers, but demonstrators didn’t get inside. Jeremiah Pruitt, 35, was arrested on suspicion of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.


Troopers were also trying to find 40-year-old Jeremy Roberts, who authorities said tried to access the Capitol through the west door and was involved in an attack on two reporters.

Something like 300 people assembled flash mob style and it got pretty intense. One of the demonstrators even bear sprayed a police officer. After that, the demonstrators who had broken into the building were given a steady diet of pepper balls to settle them down.

They claimed they were there to attend the session but we all know what's really going on here. Right wingers have gone violent. From now on, there will be blood every time they show up. They keep ratcheting up the violence, especially on reporters. As @Unclebaldrick says, "this isn't over".

Proud sissies hiding behind a flag. They are as far from being patriotic Americans as Kim Jong Un. They are rallying because they feel emboldened by our current corrupt President that is doing everything he can to destroy our Democracy. They'll crawl back under their rocks after January 20th when the duly elected President of the United States is sworn in.

These things have been around these parts for decades. They have been ignored for the most part but now that we have an openly racist President tweeting bullshit daily they are just following in his stench. Screaming and yelling their message of fear and hate.

America has spoken loudly. And what it said is not what these fools espouse.

Let the flat earthers and conspiracy theory morons continue to waste their lives. The rest of us will continue to live our lives as decent Americans. We can't waste time with these losers. The future is where intelligent people are looking unlike these dumb Americans that have wasted their lives, have no future, and are just angry over other people's success in life from hard work.

Maybe if they cleaned themselves up, got a job, learned some manners, and actually acted like men they could get a date and get laid. Then they would get rid of that sexual frustration they live with daily and instead of hanging out at sausage fests they could spend their time in the company of a nice woman like real men do.

I don't hate them. I pity them. It's actually quite sad to see so many men wasting their lives when they could be doing something productive and enjoying all that life has to offer.

I don't know where this is heading but it doesn't seem to me that they are going to go away after Jan. 20.

They are losing the guy at the top who has been protecting them and giving them license to riot. So, I hope you are right. I simply don't think they are going to go away. The trend toward ever more violence continues.

This is the first time I've seen where one of the Proud Boys goons bear sprayed a police officer. That's a significant change. The police will protect their own, even against those they sympathize with. So, maybe this is the beginning of the end of the alliance between Proud Boys and the police.

The police response was inadequate, reminded me of Michigan, imagine these clowns getting close enough to kick in a door. I also noticed they were wearing masks, to hide their identity, not for covid mitigation. They seem to be given lots of "white privilege", like in Michigan, it appears the governor can't depend on the police for protection. The new federal AG needs to look into this situation and I wonder if the state one will too. There appears to be sympathy among law enforcement for these terrorists. Why that was just some good old boys having a little fun, no harm done...

Not just trespass and vandalism charges should be considered, more serious offenses should be considered too. Coming onto the state legislature grounds armed should be made a crime with a mandatory minimum sentence. Anybody wearing an explosives vest should have been shot in the head on sight without warning, cause ya never know. These kind of people will walk all over you if they think you are weak, they must be met with overwhelming force and harsh sentences.

I can imagine the response of an armed group of black men storming a legislature, the national guard would be deployed and there would be an overwhelming police presence and deadly force would be used. They would all be dead or face down on the pavement and under arrest. A black guy wearing an explosives vest among them would have shot in the head without hesitation by a roof top sniper.

You can only hope that Donald fucks over Mitch so much that they lose the senate, but the racists will strive to destroy the country rather than give it up. Make no mistake, Donald was just their ugly face, the majority of white Americans support this shit. Donald can't fuck up enough, impoverish or kill enough Americans, or release enough criminals for them. His approval rating is still over 42% and IMHO the polling numbers from Georgia are useless. Only if Donald keeps his hardcore moron base home and divides the republicans, it's the only way the democrats will win the senate.

It might be time for Joe to appoint his new AG and he should issue a stark warning to Georgia election officials about voter suppression. They might get pretty desperate about sending two obviously corrupt senators back to Washington to serve the 1%, just as long as the keep the black folks down, nod, nod, wink, wink.

What extreme left is he talking about? Who carries weapons and wears body armor? who wears fake bombs in vests (I assume) and I would personally shoot between the eyes at a safe distance, cause you take no chances with suicide bombers. If he didn't want to get shot in the head without warning, he shouldn't wear such a vest in public. In the UK or Europe he would be shot in the head on sight without warning, Canada too.

Proud Boys and their ilk have been treated as partners by the police throughout the decade. I take note of the attack on a police officer by one of the Proud Boys when he hit the officer with a shot of bear spray. That was out of norm from what I've seen in the past demonstrations. Usually, Proud Boys are given an Olé by the police as they pass through their ranks and into the lines of counter protesters. While the police come from behind and arrest counter demonstrators for protecting themselves and others. This time there was nothing for PB to do except break a few windows and try to force their way into the state building.


It could be that there weren't any counter protesters around and the guy needed to use up his can of bear spray before it went out of date so he doused a friend as a joke, IDK. (satire) That was unusual. Maybe the worm is turning. Or maybe it was a different police force than the one in Portland. But totally agree with you that privilege was evident in the way that crowd behaved and was treated. If it had been a BLM protest, water canons would have been used along with rubber bullets, gas and mass arrests.

I disagree. I think once trump is gone he'll get bored playing politics and fade away. It might take a couple of years but with his declining health and mental state he'll likely be in a wheelchair being fed baby food by a nurse in a couple of years.

Hope you win the senate with Donald's help, Joe can have clean hands when they roll these assholes up with a commission on policing and months of cellphone video of police actions and extensive interviews with the FBI. Every city where this shit happened should have a grand jury convened about it too. A national database and federal law to keep them from getting jobs again even as security guards in a mall. Between a senate commission and the new AG, there will be al lot of questions asked, details covered and unemployed cops and officials.

America has got some house cleaning to do, start with the cops and domestic disinformation network, social media regulation and federal corruption. The AG should bring back at least 3000 retired FBI agents and investigate every member of congress for corruption equally. I don't think the democrats will be as hard hit as the republicans and I'm pretty sure a half dozen republican senators can be busted minimum. It will just make the democrats more honest, corrupt politicians are worse than useless, they are a national security risk.

HR1 on steroids of course and get rid of dark money. You might be pleasantly surprised with the SCOTUS, since the conservative justices recently got their political home burned to the fucking ground and the fire is still blazing in the ruins. Treason to the constitution and sedition can do that kind of thing to judges and justices.

I don't know what universe some are living in but Antifa an extreme fringe group. Shields, helmets, and some with body armour. They also carry guns. Here they are marching armed through a neighborhood in Portland. I don't like the proud boys nor antifa. I'm smart enough not to say one is better than the other. They both suck. I do know that antifa has been causing chaos in Portland for a long time including rioting, destroying property, and looting businesses.

It's not a fixation it's an acknowledgement that they are nothing but a group that stands for nothing except the next cause so they can run amok and cause havoc. I don't think we are going to win both seats in Georgia. I think it's going to be difficult to get anything done for the next couple of years at least. The main objective is to keep Republicans from flipping the house in 2022. Most people in this country are more conservative than you or I would like them to be. Most don't want an activist authoritarian government at all, which is what I keep seeing you advocate.

Biden correctly says that we should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. There will be investigations into misdeeds by many who participated in Trump's administration, including Trump. Those will take several years to complete. So, don't expect anything before the 2022 elections in that regard. I think they will go on, hopefully in the background. While that is going on, Biden needs to do what most of us want regardless of partisan leanings: grow the economy and expand the number of good paying jobs. That's how Democrats will succeed, not what you laid out in your post.

There are plenty of other things to do and I think Biden will be good but not great on those fronts but bread and butter politics will be most important to just about everybody, post pandemic.

I see guns, but also see a sign that says justice for all. I also see a police force out of control and on the side of violent rightwing extremists who regularly pillage the city. I see a reaction to that in the pictures above and I also see your biases, you are swimming through a sea of information to your turd of choice too. Photos of rightwing extremists are far more frequent and they are actually doing violence. Were these people alone on the streets or was there another camera angle not shown?

From your posts you fear the left more than the right and are mounting a both sides are the same argument. Both sides are not the same, these people in the photos dressed in black support the constitution, the assholes on the right support it's destruction. Vote for an honest independent, if the democrats cause you pain, all the good people have left the republican party, all of them, they are not an option for a patriot, now and into the future!

Do you live in Portland and if so have you not seen the damage this group has done to the city? It was antifa starting fires, breaking window, looting businesses. It's not a fixation it's an acknowledgement that they are nothing but a group that stands for nothing except the next cause so they can run amok and cause havoc. Trump said "good people on both sides"
X says "bad people on both sides"

Both statements are logical fallacies. He's lumping the two together because they were at the same events. The guy is confused or trolling, it's hard to tell the difference sometimes. Regardless, he is wrong.
