The Brady Bunch! First CFL Grow, Bag Seed (all advice welcome)

Cindy- Day 19

Cindy is taking off, lots of new growth from her every day. Her stem is starting to thicken up and turn green. Beautiful plant, already starting to smell dank!

Marcia is looking a lot better, she is starting to grow again. She lost her droop for the most part. Should see some explosive growth from her in the coming days.

I had almost given up on Jan, but I left her for a few more days to see if I could notice any positive results. Woke up this morning and her drooping was almost entirely gone! She had also started on some new growth, so I am happy to see her doing well now.

One thing I did notice when I went to check out my girls this morning was that there was a few gnat looking bugs around my plants, on the soil and such. There was even a few of these yellow looking bugs that I don't think can fly, in the soil. Any ideas on what these could be? And if they are harmful to my babies? If so anyone have any remedies to get rid of them? I will be looking searching for sure.

Do you think it would be beneficial to leave a fan blowing on Cindy directly now? I have had a fan blowing indirectly on her since sprout, but do you think she is strong enough to take the full force of the fan or if it will help? I'm thinking it should scare the bugs away a bit too since they won't be able to settle if there is always a constant wind pushing on them. Ideas?

I wanted to fim or top Cindy, but her new growth doesn't extend far enough for me to be able to reach with scissors or a razor blade. Picture below.

Anyway overall I'm happy to see that my girls are happy. Only concern being these bugs. Any info would be appreciated.

So I figured out the bugs I have are most likely gnats. I made an organic pesticide out of chopped onions, garlic, cayenne pepper, denatured alcohol and dish soap. Sprayed Cindy with it hoping it would keep the bugs off her. Still saw a lot of bugs flying around so I found some aquarium sand in my house and covered all of my pots in about 1"1/2 of the stuff and also put all of my girls on a plate and covered the bottoms with rocks too. Heard this will trap all the larvae inside so new adults cannot escape. Now I just have to wait about 10 days - the average life cycle of a gnat - to see if it worked. Hopefully they will all be gone. Also put out two dishes of water mixed with dish soap so when they go for a drink they get trapped and die. A few dead ones floating around in there so definitely worth it.

Cindy has been growing well, but the bugs are bothering her. Hopefully they will all be gone soon. Still getting new growth everyday so she is power through it. She is a little bush ball, less than an inch between node spacings.

Marcia came back strong after I re-potted her, she was the second to get attacked by bugs though and she is starting to droop a little. But I think I covered her in rocks before a lot of damage was done. Her leafs look the most different out of the three. Thinking she may be more sativa than the other two ladies. Which is good :eyesmoke: I love me some sativa.

And Jan is the inspiration story of the week. She was the runt of the group for the longest time, I ever considered pulling her because I thought she was just about dead. She wasn't growing for about 4 days. Then once I re-potted her and she got situated she took off. Now she is looking the best out of all three of the ladies. Really happy to see her doing well now. The bugs didn't seem to attack her so I'm thinking she may be pest resistant? Definitely going to be taking clones from her to see if this is true. I kind of have a feeling she is male though, if so then I would be happy to cross her with either of my other ladies and hopefully acquire that pest resistant phenotype. Explosive growth from her in only four days.

Started a little bondage on Cindy today, see how she likes it. Watered her this morning with a little bit of 30-10-10 nutes added to the water.

New pictures of all the girls because I had the camera already out. Enjoy.

Question regarding Marcia, does that look like Tobacco Mosaic Virus to you guys? Please help me out here.

Watered Cindy this morning without nutes. She is looking A LOT better, leafs are coming in real nice and perky and green. The bugs seem to finally be dissipating. She is taking nicely to the LST, her secondary growth is thanking me for it! Those little leafs are loving the new light and are growing quickly.

Jan is now looking like the super star of the bunch. The runt surprised me, she has come a long way. All her new growth looks very healthy and she is very symmetrical which is nice to look at

Marcia was having some problems the last few days, her leafs started to curl and twist, but from the look of her new growth coming in she looks to be healthy. Fimed her (hopefully) yesterday. Will see how that turns out and form there will decide if I should apply the technique to Jan or not. And I want to see if I did it right.

Enjoy.

Made some improvements to my setup. Now I am running (6) 23w 6500k and (2) 27w 5000k. The girls seem to be loving it. Temps stay around 68 at night - 78 during the day.

Cindy is taking well to the LST, her lower growth is shooting up :hump:She has grown a lot and looks very healthy. Will be watering her tomorrow with nutes. Last two pictures of Cindy is before and after my LST today.

Marcia is coming back, her new growth is looking a lot healthier. Glad to see her doing well. Watered her and Jan with nutes this morning. It looks as though I cut too much and topped Marcia.

Jan is looking wonderful, I went ahead and tried to fim her. I think I did it right this time, we will see in a few days.

Bugs are still around but in decreasing numbers it seems. Hope to have them eradicated within a week. All in all glad to see my girls doing well.

Hey guys I decided to move my pots into another piece of tupperware and cover the top soil and bottom of the pots with more aquarium gravel so that gnat larva can't escape and reach maturity and so adult gnats can't re-enter the soil and plant more eggs. My question is do you guys think my roots can still breathe? I don't want to kill my girls. :?

Thanks!:-P

if you do get root bound ( which i think you wont )- cut the bottom of the pot and stick it inside a bigger one with soil in it...just in case.
