That same harvest I pulled six zipps off a JC. I sent this to the guy that sent me Apollo-13, and he also couldn't get it to make big fun. But he agreed it's simply so potent so tasty and so unique, he added it to his stash as his #1 personal smoke. People are always asking if I would breed with this plant. Well to be honest I am positive it's located in the Space Queen f2's. Even though we used the largest and slightly different phenotype to breed with, when you grow out the f2's your going to get a slight variation. The smaller phenotypes that are more resinous, harder buds and a more triangular shape that's closer to the Romulan side of things, as the larger and rounded buds are to me more a Cindy trait. I have a weird theory I will share with you, but it has very little scientific basis and is based more on my observations. It seems when you grow out a lot of seeds, the strain has an infinite amount of potency to be distributed. The larger, leafier females that yield more and grow fastier and easier are NEVER as potent as the smaller strains that seem to put more effort into resin production and less into yield. Therefore these strains are potent as hell, and this is the foundation of how I select my mother plants. There are certainly always exceptions like Jacks Cleaner that is extremely potent and yields well. And there are certainly many others, but take Og kush. I don't grow it, but isn't it a PIA to grow and low yielding? Think of all the super potent extremely resinated strains that don't yield great: G-13, Apollo, Genius, OG Kush and others are all known to be incredibly potent. It's a theory anyway. Growing safely now in a legal med garden, I have been able to grow out some of my genetic stash over and over again. And tweaking each plants soil mix, I am able to maximize the yield of plants that in the past were known as low yielding. This is the case with the phenotype. By lowering her initial nutrient level (cooler soil) and not feeding her anything until day 30, where she received a nice blast of High P poo stew with assorted organic goodies like Sweet Leaf. She responded well to the easy treatment, and I have doubled the yield on her. Every time I harvested her, I would make small adjustments. And I continued to increase her yields to almost three jars just before we built our new rooms. It's a Gas Now we added CO2 (use a consistent abbreviation Co2 or CO2. Choose one and stick with it). are running in the new room. Temps run around 74 degrees and below to control bugs. I read a thread that said co2 wasn't helpful in low temps, but I am going to have to disagree. I have never seen a Tiny Bomb this size. Now keep in mind she had an extended veg under flo's, while we moved over to new place and built the new rooms. But I am certain the co2 added to the girth of the buds. This proves that even with a smaller phenotype you can still learn to maximize her yields, if you just watch the plant and listen to what it tells you by how it reacts to its environment and treatment.

*sniffs to smell the clean air* I love the smell of a clean thread!:-P That tiny bomb sounds to me like a good candidate to market towards people that have little space to grow in. IMO that there would be my #1 choice if say I did a cab-grow or something. Is that a good assumption? She looks like it would be hard to get off your fingers too:lol: nice pics man

So are you saying that Tiny Bomb bred with a certain Space Queen is underway the key to a larger yielding, but still ridiculously potent like Tiny Bomb? Or should the regulations on the number of plants that can be legally be grown be increased to maintain a steady supply of super effective meds? Or my favorite option... BOTH!

I heard of the strain Trainwreck way back on the east coast when I was still smoking brown imports. It was spoken about like it was the long lost epic weed and I always hoped I would get the opportunity to work with a clone or hybrid of the cross. The first time I actually got to sample any of the bud was traveling from Arizona to Humbolt county to visit a friend who had invited me up. The weed scene in Prescott was horrible and we were used to smoking dirt weed about 50% of the time and I will always remember how as I traveled north the quality of weed got better and better. I was broke and on the run back then and I traveled the way many people in those circumstances did I rode the Dog! You meet some colorful people when you ride on a Greyhound bus and this trip was no different. In Vegas a couple got me high on some nice green outdoor but by the time we hit northern Cali at a rest stop a dude broke out a nice glass pipe full of Bubblehash and I knew I was headed in the right direction. As I talked with this cat he told me he was from Arcata and had been down south visiting a relative and was on his way back home. He asked if I had any bud and I said no so he gave me a nice hunk of indoor and as we re-boarded the bus I thanked him and ask what kind? He says that’s Train wreck bud and gave me a big old grin that said without words I wouldn’t forget smoking his gift. Once I actually got to my destination I was pretty impressed that dudes bud was better than anything I smoked while visiting my friend including the Salmon Creek Big Bud and other local strains.
Once I finally moved out west and started growing out all the famous west coast genetics I met a young guy who gave me cuts of Purple Urkle and Arcata Trainwreck and I grew both of them out. We still grow and love the Urkle cutting and used it to create our cross called Querkle but the Trainwreck was a different story. The final bud was very potent there is no doubt of that but from a growers stand point the plant was very tall and very picky producing male stamens ( Herms) as early as week 6 of budding. IT also had a woody acrid taste that I couldn’t get past. This taste I learned is what Train wreck is known for but as I tasted other samples I learned there are at least a few different cuttings of the plant. In the book of Dank I detailed this particular cutting on page 88 but after growing it to harvest several times I decided not to breed with it and to stop growing it.
Last year my best mate, Dioxide ran across a cutting found by Smokescreen, story goes he scored a nice sack of Train wreck buds grown by a cat that has been growing the Trinity and the Trainwreck for sometimes. Smokescreen found a few seeds in the sack and grew them out finding one female that was exceptional. Dioxide was given a cutting of this female and started running it at his place. All 3 of us are legal card holders under state law and we trade cuttings pretty regularly with people that need better genetics or something for a specific ailment. This particular Train wreck cutting Now while I am not a fan of Trainwreck myself I know incredibly potent weed when I see it and this was some of the most potent I had smoked in a long while. Turning a dark maroon almost black color the plant is completely covered with raised resin stalks crowded together so tightly they seem to form a web entwined glass beads. The plant is also virtually mildew proof, this trait would be very desirable to those growing outdoors in wetter climates.

It was a no brainer to outcross this to our Jack the Ripper Male and see what the two power house strains would produce as a sibling cross. The mechanics however are a bit more complicated but Danny Danko asked me to reveal how we do it so pay attention here. As a rule of thumb you start budding the female plant 7-10 days before you place the male plant into the budding phase. This allows ample pistils for the male pollen to settle on assuring a large number of seeds are produced. The only problem with this rule of thumb is all Cannabis strains mature at different rates according to the origin location on the planet. Some plants especially Indica dominant mature very fast and produce a great number of pistils early one. Sativa hybrids can take much longer and we will sometimes delay a male flowering as much as two weeks. Once both plants are budding and the females approach the third week of flowering we hit what I like to call the "pollination window" or simply the best time to allow pollen to come in contact with the female for best seed production. If this is done to early very few seeds will be made if its done to late the seeds made will not have time to mature into viable seeds.

We use a separate area to breed in that has it's own ventilation system. We use a 465 CFM exhaust fan and a 14" Can filter to remove smells. This set up makes the breeding area to be negative in pressure so theoretically no pollen can drift into other rooms where unseeded medical plants are budding. During the time we have stray pollen all grow room doors are sealed after CO2 tanks are filled and we use a sprayer of water to keep any unwanted pollen away. Water activates pollen and in some large commercial greenhouses water curtains are used to prevent the infiltration of pollen. I use a much more low tech system that works well for us. If you wonder why TGA sometimes runs low on a certain strain it is because this is how we work on a small scale, by hand up close and personal. This assures quality and consistency in our seeds.
We like to place the male in the breeding room all by his self untill he is dropping pollen everywhere. No fans are on at this time so the pollen sits on his leaves and in close proximity to the male plant. Once we are in the " Pollination Window" I will carry the budding female plants into the breeding room with the water sprayer and bucket of clean water and close myself in. I then lift the male plant shaking him roughly and a cloud of pollen is released. I like to work in the dark wearing only a small green laser light that allows me to see the flying pollen grains. I will repeat this process twice making sure I have covered as much of the plant as possible. Once I am sure I have done a good job the male plant is cut off at the base of the plant and submerged under water in the bucket of water. Then I use the water sprayer to mist all the areas of the breeding room and then I quickly leave the breeding room spraying a fine mist over my head and in front of me as I exit through two sealed doors. I immediately head inside the hose and shower off placing the cloths I had on in the laundry. Before the pollinated female plants are placed back into a main bud room they are washed three more times with clean water. Its a great deal of work and I can tell you that others than have tried to re-create my methods have ended up seeding plants they did not intend too. I note this because I don't want people mad at me if they try this and end up with seeds in their sinsimellia.
I looked to Dioxide to produce this new hybrid for a number of reasons, he brought the cross to the table for one. He also has a deep love for the plant and more importantly the people around him. I have never met a young man who looks after humanity like Dioxide and I can think of no one better to pass on my knowledge to. Lastly hes much younger than me and has a great deal of energy, I am not saying I am burnt out but new blood never hurts a project.
We promptly got them into the hands of Growers and caregivers that do a good job of data collection as well as taking great pics. I also started 6 seeds myself and ran them to maturity and the new strain couldn’t have been easier to grow. I ran them in my super soil using simple 5 gallon containers and giving them just plain water until day 40 where I started applying Sugars and carbs. The plants grew effortlessly and very fast all with the same structure and appearance. The buds produced were a perfect mix of the two parents and my favorite female had a unique lime sherbet smell and taste. It was extremely potent and while I was very excited I anxiously waited on everyone else’s input.
As we started getting feedback we discovered a huge plus with this strain, seems the Trainwreck momma passed on her mildew resistance and even in grow rooms with heavy outbreaks of powdery mildew Chernobyl remained spotless. The new hybrid also seems to hold on to the color changing trait of the mom and near maturity the buds turn amazing colors of lime green, dark purple and even shades or plum and black.
As our test growers started harvesting the buds and sampling them one work kept being tossed at me. POTENT was the word from everyone and a complex THC profile that everyone found very unusual.
The first smoke report came in from Speakrsrfun a long time friend and tester of all of gear, this is what he had to say: “Chernobyl, Oh boy your in for a treat....”
“OK I’ve been smoking herbs a long time, recreationally at first when I was younger and after my head injury medicinally to combat seizure like episodes, so basically a long time…. Now when I say something is stellar I mean it’s top shelf above most others in quality, but when I call something SPECTACULAR it’s something that blows me away and says that there’s some majik in them there plants. Well Chernobyl is a SPECTACULAR cross and some superb meds to boot. Phenotypic variation was minimal showing really only two phenotypes. I got a super lemony-fuel smelling wench that was much more indica in stature and growth pattern and the other a more fuel diesel smell with earthy undertones that showed more of a stacked calyx growth patern and a much more sativa habit. Both were good yielders but not behemoths by any stretch, but as I don’t have a reason to weigh anything I couldn’t give you a estimate on yield. Easy to grow and I will be starting more ASAP to find a keeper mom.”
High Description: Total body annihilation and wreck shop head….
Smell: Smells of earthy diesel fuel to lemony fuel haze loveliness
Taste: Earthy to lemony, almost like Keif, kinda that strong resin taste….
Medical Effects: Total body effects and the mind relaxing effects make this one great for those with sleep disorders and pain while you sleep, I slept well the first time in a while due to a phattie of Chernobyl….
<9> Medicinal Strength

KEEPER?
Absolutely a keeper strain, I’ll be running these again soon and are vegging as we speak, I didn’t keep cuts from round 1 but will take some from these seed plants without doubt.

FINAL COMMENTS:
Alright without sounding like a kiss ass or like I’m fattening the heads of my two friends Sub and Dioxide I want to say what I think about this combo. Completely and utterly without a doubt the best cross you have made to date when it comes to sheer potency, ease of keeping them alive and healthy and overall enjoyment factor. Words taken from a fellow veteran five minutes after I burned one down with him….

“WOW THAT WRECKED ME”

Speaks

The Herbilizor a grower in the UK also gave her a run for us and he was completely blown away.
Here are just a few of his comments :
“Ah man, Where to start.....
I have sat at my pc for the past week with my remnants of Chernobyl ready to make smoke reports.
ITS TOO BLOODY HARD - THEY ALL WRECK ME TOO MUCH.
All 7 phenos are very similar, especially in effects. SO, what I am going to do is do a report on Phenos 1&8 - Which are my winning phenos. The real prob is they all so good, I want to keep them all.
Photos of all phenos, dry, are in my gallery. So come tomorrow or next day I shall do the smoke report.
But let me say this, I will be very upset when my last buds of Chernobyl are gone. But I have 2600w of it cooking away atm, so some more coming in a month. Yipee.
Every night on the Chernobyl has be very well rested and a good nights sleep had. Does not do good things for short term memory tho.
Stupidly strong herb is the Chernobyl and loved by all that try her
Herbilizor
So there you have it a detailed look at how and why Chernobyl was created and some in depth reports on the results. I personally don’t like the strong taste of Trainwreck but I smoked every crumb of the Chernobyl I produced and found I concur the stuff is incredibly strong and unlike anything we have every created before. You can find Chernobyl at reputable distributors of fine cannabis genetics.

That Chernobyl is definitely a favorite of mine! A local guy here grows only Chernobyl and he says that he's in love with a certain phenotype he found in his 10 pack. and next outdoor season i'll be running that for sure!

Its ok to post here guys I didnt mean to be a tyrant just not giant crappy pics with no relevance

The strain on the cover of Dank is Orange Velvet and genetics and organics are how I get the colors and how I grow is spelled out in great detail in my forums.

I will cover that with my nest article on cannabis colors

The Color Purple
By Subcool

Purple Cannabis is all the rage in the Nocal clubs and it is highly sought after by both consumers and producers, lets explore this phenomenon and learn some things about Cannabis and Color. Do we see any great demand for purple today? Not in normal things because they’re readily available but when it comes to Purple Pot it’s another story.
Cannabis floral clusters are basically green, but changes may take place later in the season, which alter the color to include various shades. The intense green of chlorophyll usually hides the color of accessory pigments, Chlorophyll starts to loose it’s vibrant green color late in the season and anthocyanin pigments also contained in the tissues are uncovered and the amazing colors are produced at this time. Purple, resulting from anthocyanin accumulation, is extremely common in Cannabis, this color modification is usually triggered by seasonal change, and also can be influenced indoor by a temperature drop of between 20-30 degrees.

This does not mean, however, that Purple is controlled by environment alone and it can be passed on genetically. For purple color to develop upon maturation, a strain must have the genetically controlled metabolic potential to make anthocyanin pigments and be responsiveness to environmental change such as cold nighttime temps. This means a strain can have the genetic potential to change color but if conditions never exist you may never know it. I have grown Jacks Cleaner for a long time and when I moved west and it found some dramatically cooler temps I got a nice maroon/ purple coloring at maturity

There are other pigments that effect the color of mature cannabis for example Carotenoid is largely responsible for the yellow, orange, red, and brown colors in buds. I find this effect is much easier to accomplish in Organics and soil but in order to really call a strain Purple it needs to have more than colored outer leaves and the inner buds need to actually be Purple.

One aspect that I also find interesting is the purple potency debate, for those that have collected a few plants that produce Purple buds under any conditions like certain Black Russian phenotypes we have noticed something that seems to be consistent. When growing out females of a hybrid that have both color females and non colored females the colored one seems to always be less potent.

This doesn’t mean I haven’t smoked great Purple weed, Both Urkle and Querkle ( A TGA Urkle Hybrid) have an amazing taste and are very stoney and the favorite Indica’s of many tokers.

My friends grows a local Purple Urkle Clone that taste out of this world. It is a clone only strain that originated in Northern California It may be one of the better tasting Purple strains around and it’s purple to the center of the cola, every single part of the plant is purple. I would give the high intensity an 8 very enjoyable, something I might keep around and so far the one I like the most. After an afternoon session I determined it’s main attraction is the lip smacking Grape/Lavender taste of the smoke.

The Purps and Mendo Purps are both rumored to be good but I wasn’t impressed with the first Mendo I sampled, it didn’t taste at all grapey or berry like I may have been a poor sample though. We also sampled many strains in Amsterdam with color but none stood out. There are so many Purple cuts in California its hard to really know what any one really is but I recently smoked a Sputnik 2 female with nice outer purple that kicked my ass in about 3 hits. Recently Badboy gained a cut of a strain called Purple Helmet he says its very good and is currently growing her out. Double Purple Doja a creation of TGA knocks me on my ass but I still would not place it in a league with an Apollo –13 or something like OG Kush.
Other Northern California Strains:

Granddaddy purple, Godfather purple, Super Purple Kush, Gods Gift, Urkle, Purple Midnight, Purple Rainbow, Purple Princess, Purple Fire, Purple Cream, Purple Rainbow, Lavender, Purple Friday, Purple Magic, Ray's Purple. Most of these can be found in the clubs but they could all be a few strains grown by different people with jazzed up names.
I can’t confirm it but many people think Urkle and Lavender are the same cutting.
We continue to explore this paradox of color and potency. I recently sampled some very Berry Surprise and while it looked amazing I didn’t even finish sample it just had no real taste other than burning. For now we are growing the Lavender and crossing her with certain males to establish what traits she will pass on.

Lets look at ways to maximize coloring in your garden.

The first trick to inducing some good color change is what I like to call the “fade” this is when using an organic soil mix you achieve the perfect balance of N-P-K allowing the plant to use up all the available nitrogen and start loosing it’s Chlorophyll and the colored pigments are allowed to bleed through as the green fades. This can be achieved I am sure in Hydro as well but plants react so fast and absorb so well in water that its more normal for a hydro plant to be green and vibrant that multi colored like in soil organics.

The second thing that can really make a huge difference is a large temperature swing between day time and night time temps. The nice thing is with a simple A/c unit and a well built bud room it’s pretty easy to chill a 12x12 room to 60 degrees year round. That same room running 3000 watts will have a day time temperature of between 80-85 degrees making a 25 degree temperature swing. This will easily unlock that fall color hidden inside a strain provided the genetic coding is also there. I have to say from experience it’s a trait of a large percentage of Cannabis that I have grown. Bringing in outside air in colder climates can also be helpful in adding some color as well as keeping bugs in check and a bud room can stand bitter cold if your not worried about reservoir temps.

Last proper application of nutrients is very important if you jack up the N far into bud your not going to see this fading and you may even effect the taste I have found plants that faded to early actually tasted sweeter but then you hurt your yields. Using a good catalyst can also help a lot as the citric acid and sugars seem to speed up the maturation process I currently use sweet leaf at week 4 and week 6. There are many good products and many old timers even make up there own using cane sugar and citric acid but I think the big companies have better research to support there recipes.

Querkle was created using the Urkle clone and out crossing to our Space Queen male. You can see by the pictures of Querkle it carried the Purple Trait into the sibling cross well.

aside from swinging the temps between day and night, have you experimented with keeping the day temps low as well?

i keep my tent around 73 in the day and 73 at night also. if i added anther a/c i think i could get it down to mid sixties during the day. do you think this would accomplish diff colors or is it simply the temp swing between day and night?

That is some cool science to purple Sub. That surprises me that they lack in potency when compared to non-purp. There seems to be a lot of hype out there that says purp means more blazed. I have never smoked any purp, so I don't know. Nice read though man!
