Thanks Harrekin, Biobizz All-Mix has some good reviews. My poor seed hasn't germinated yet after 24 hours. Guess coz it's just so cold at the monent. Might bring it into bed with me tonight:-o I'll give it another day or two.

Hey Toasty, Why dont you try a zip lock bag(keeps the moisture in) keep it between paper towels in the bag and leave it in the hot press for a night or 2

Hey Jingle, thanks for the tip. Also it should be easier to keep warm in the baggie. Hopefully this will be effective.

Tell me about it jimmy I laughed my head off when I realised....onwards and upwards as you say!!! What sort of device could I use to pump some air into the soil? I think the weight of the water and soil might be putting pressure on the roots and it could be suffocating them?

Mick, if you have a heating mat for brewing or a heated propagator or even a hot water bottle underneath the pot, itll help dry it out quicker. a fan will help too, or a fan heater even better. You could try a towel underneath to soak up some moisture through the holes at the bottom of the pot....you know the ones......;) you just have to laugh

Hey everybody, have a mystery seed that I found in a bud. Currently germinating. what is a good soil I can buy in ireland? Shamrock, maybe?[/QUOTE

Biobizz is yer only man, but if you cant or dont want to go to a grow shop, then John Innes no.2 is good, Shamrock is shit, so is anything peat based, but most of the non peat based compost is even worse. Youll need to add something like a quarter pearlite to the compost, or sand even.

The allmix or light mix from Biobizz has all the shit in it you want, so it does really make sense, and while your getting it, you can get some purpose made feed too. Youll be needing it soon enough.

If that seed of yours sprouts. Any joy?

I think the paper towel method is a waste of time to be honest...I just throw my seeds in a wine glass full of water, then when I see taproots (never over 12 hours on a viable seed) I just strain the water out through kitchen paper/coffee filter and Bobs you mothers brother!

.

Seriously harekin, you just drop them in to water, do they not drown( or can they drown). And you reckon i should have a result within 12 hours. have you used this method a lot. Do you leave it in dark on on a window ledge or what. I have a couple of barneys flower power at home might drop one tonight just to see.

Just leave it anywhere to be honest, its a seed, alot of people act a bit paranoid with them, over-mind them but you gotta remember a seed is supposed to be eaten, passed through an animal then deposited on the ground and THEN germinated! Theyre tough enough!

Plus think about it this way: a seed is like a Pot Noodle, its needs to be saturated through so it knows it time to grow because when your germinating a seed your just rehydrating it through its shell.

Last time I just left it on the kitchen counter behind the toaster! :) I wouldnt leave them long enough (take them out when you see roots)to let them drown their young taproots tho.

hi jingle
if harrekin puts them in cold water and they are ok i would not say temps matter too much, i put my seeds in between 2 sheets(folded over so 4 layers top and bottom) of wet kitchen towel and stuck them in between two saucers and put them somewhere dark, i put mine in cupboard, all germinated and grew well. theres a video on it on youtube.
good luck with them

mick i had to put a towel under my plant that had blocked holes and it sucked a good bit of moisture out, good luck fella hope it turns out ok.

mick if the soil is getting compacted then either use a syringe such as the one in the ink refill kits or stick a couple of small garden worms into the pots, they will break up the soil and there poop is supposed to be very good for the plants, any fishing tackle shop like the one up in tymon north sells little pots of redworms, im sure theyll be ok though.

Just a quick update on my grow...

I've had to up the hours of light to 20/4 from 18/6 due to the cold weather... Temps inside are reaching mid 20'c and lows of 7'c..

1 Auto-flower seed never popped its head but the other 7 did.. :-)

Clones seam to be doing well, I've to take more Purple Window clones later..
I've just bought some Epsom salts and some sulphate of ammoina which seams to be pure Nitrogen so gonna give that a test with small doses..

No way would i be able to do 12 hour flowering phase.. not in these temps...
