The Key to good full melt hash/ice wax...

Besides the obvious (Which would be to read as much of Matt Rize's forums, listen to his advice, Subcool's advice regarding hash, etc.), too many people ask how to make water hash that "actually melts like wax". I've read multiple times about people making bubble hash and it not bubbling, which I had suffered with for a while.

The trick is very simple....It all boils down to the product you start out with. In order to get full melt hash guaranteed when you make bubble, you have to make it out of product that is gummed out to the max, buds or trim that is so pretty it hurts you to put it into water. This is where most people go wrong. If you make your bubble out of A+ gummy resinous nuggets, your hash will come out melting like crazy.

Just a thought I wanted to share. Here's a recent batch of OG13/Kandy Kush Ice Wax...

Does anybody have experience running buds instead of trim to make water hash?? I would be interested in your methods...I am still learning, and find it very hard to find information on making bubble out of whole flowers!

i do it the same way bamacheese, just with cured frozen buds instead of cured frozen trim. next question is are you using the machine or doing it by hand? if i do it by hand i only do a ounce max in a 5 gallon run. nothing real scientific, i just found that my yeild at 1.5 ounces wasnt enough to make it worth adding. at 3/4 of a ounce the yield started dropping and the water wasnt as saturated. as for the bud, i usally just break it down to its smallest form with cutting it up. my thinking is that if its super powdery it'll get through and contaminate the good stuff. id be interested to hear how the chopped up stuff turns out if anyones into that. ive been doin the subcool style for 8+ years now and i finally bought a machine after many hard hours of mixing. i love it! its the big fella, not the little crappy one that breaks 3 runs in. and dare i say i made better hash after reading some matt rize posts?? just becarefull, lost of negativity coming your way for the name drop too. lol. let the clobbering begin! sounds like your well on your way to making amazing full melt though. if you get a chance snap some pics.

I'm still mixing by hand...probably will for a really long time.

I agree, It's sad to see how many haters some people have. Matt Rize and Subcool definitely have a bunch of haters. I'm not one of them. If I see people doing good things, spreading good words, breeding good genes, I let people know.

TGA offers some exquisite ganja, I'll be running several of their strains in the upcoming months. The Deep Purple I just cut is the STUPIDEST herb I've had in years. Fucking unbelievable.

stupid how lol...hey maybe you guys cananswer this i just smoked the last of my first ever bubble run and i just didnt yield much...what are the biggest factors of yield..i used just under an ounce..if it was dry..of trim and it was very sugary. i followed subcools method to the t but maybe adding in more steps of coldness like getting extra water ready in the freezer and whatnot..and after the first run i got like 1 and a half pea sized bits if you took a pea and a half and smooshed them some out of the 120 the 90 and the 25 i thought shit that wasnt much and went another run this run produced half that and the second run was green then black instead of the nice amber to brown i got from the first run which i expected..so all together i believe i made about .8 grams ish...is that around where i should be with material used or did i yield bad?? either way i took all the remnants and made butter so no loss but i want to get more hash next time..tips?

If you used fresh trim, that is most likely the cause. There is an art to using fresh trim (From what I've heard, it has to be frozen immediately, frozen at least a day, and you have to let it soak longer before you start agitation.

The other 2 things that decrease most people's hash yields:

1) Not soaking long enough before agitation (Let your product soak AT LEAST 30 minutes in an ice water bath before starting to agitate)
2) Quality of the herb you used

I've yielded 1.2 grams off of an ounce of some pre-mature Somango...Then again, I've also yielded 1.2 grams off of 10 grams of some FIRE.

ive been hand mixing for a little over 8 years, just now im to the point where i need a machine. batches getting bigger and so are the requests lol, nothin wrong with the spoon tho. at the very least those guys opened many eyes to other ways of looking at problems, or even healthier solutions, which is the point of social interaction isnt it? hah. Have you grown much TGA before? if so you should chime in on the TGA thread. i didnt know so many people were having issues with his beans

trim/bud quality have a huge impact on final product. strain, maturity are important too but what really helped me was curing even the trim just like it was good bud, then freeze it. if you can see leafs with without resin or bare spots, or there damaged in anyway toss them to the side for a different project or the compost pile lol. are you using a 3 bag set then? i always liked the 5 set, 220, 160, 120or110, 90or73 and 25. some strians still make fullmelt at 160 still, which is normaly not very good. as with 25, every strain has a place it likes if you know what i mean. a lot hit the 90-73 area though for the good bubble. as far as yield, thats part of learning. hand mixng you can defiantly hit 12.5% return(1/8 for every oz). round two. cleans those bags with 90% iso alcohol(unless they say on it not too! it shouldn't though), get some Reverse Osmosis or distilled water from the store, harvest some of the best buds you can, nice and mature, cure and freeze when done, try again! id say stick to trim for your first few runs untill you get the hang of it, that way if you have to learn the hard way you didnt through your best buds in there! good luck bud

same method, just use ground up flowers instead of trim :p

thanks guys i reported the spammer btw dont click his shit and empower the loser lol.......so ok i did let it sit for 30 but i let it sit and soak in the freezer dont know if that matters..so the concensus is its harder to use fresh trim and i should dry it first?? i got the 8 bag set just because buying the 3 would have left out two that i wanted and why buy 5 when you can get 8 at nearly the same price lol (looking back ya i didnt need both the 73 and 90 so the 5 set would have been sufficient the way they sell it)...i ran 220 160 120 90 25 ..definitely cleaned them well when i was done with the alcohol which led me to notice another thing i should ask about..i lost so much to the alcohol lol how does sub get all the hash to lump so nicely in the middle of the bag mine was like a film over a good portion of the screen, is it that you need to fold up the bag before alllll the water is out so it settles in the "corner"? thanks for all the advice next time ill go dry if thats what the concensus is and ill just have to keep reading up

I haven't had any issues with the Deep Purple...I have Plushberry running right now...Chernobyl on the way. I've heard of people getting problems with hermies, but these are almost always problems with the growing methods in my opinion. I ran several batches of Juicy Fruit and never had any hermie issues, until I got to one clone, which had a lot of unnecessary stress put on it (such as broken branches, etc.), and it shot nanners out at week 7.

I understand that some strains are prone to hermie, but I highly doubt this is the case with any TGA strains. The dude has hundreds of people run test runs of his strains. He just rejected adding Oregon Blues to the lineup...Why? Because he said there were reported hermie problems. Dude seems to be pretty honest about his shit...

i was lucky enough to catch that class actually. to bad my plants are in ruff shape now that im home again, gotta teach the wifey to help out a lil better haha. great little tips in that video tho, like the shredder thing. i never know how to explain that in text form, but thats what really separates his style hash and everyone else imo. it dries so fast like that, no locked in musty water smell. im proud to say my ice wax was just as melty.. still have much to learn tho.. mainly on the bud side. geez they got strong dope :weed:. ive tried all but maybe 5 or 6, maybe more now, of TGA's stuff. only ones i had a issue with was jillybean, but i was the only clone i got too. no herms just tiny yield, like 30 somethin grams hah. great hash makers tho, apollo 13, vortex, 3d..

well the bigger the yield the easier it is to collect obviously but i would say get a pump srayer or a bottle of water and slowly wash the surrounding area to get the hash to move towards the middle. or just jerk it up and down like a trampoline, if your careful it should bounce around in the center. i prefer the sprayer tho, that way if theres any green you can push it thru. dry trim is only easier because it separates quicker, which sometimes is bad. its a art form really, even after you learn all the steps by heart and start making changes to suit you, your still gonna learn stuff.

You are hella lucky to live in that state, let alone chill at a hash bar listening to Matt Rize's techniques first hand...The microplaning is very interesting, but some people don't swear by it. The key is, breaking your hash up into small enough pieces to dry quickly and not oxidize....Microplaning is just one technique. For extremely tacky hash (A++ grade), microplaning is a must. There is no other way to break it down, basically..

ive finally convinced a buddy of mine to stop drying on cardboard.. i always wine about it, he puts all this hard work into hand mixing thinking its gonna be superior to the machine, then throws all this nice hash on CARDBOARD! duuude. i actually live in the midwest, i was on vacation visiting family, heard about the class and had to come by. just so happened to be a dope ice wax class:hump:.

i dont understand the microplaning....he puts the hash in the fridge or freezer or something until its super cold but not frozen and then..grates it?! lol....sounds hard to me it is so sticky right after making it, also i feel like you would lose alot that would stick to the grater. i used plastic wrap to dry mine on..same as wax paper or no? it worked ok anyway..i totally see what he means by the longer it sits without being totally dry the more it recedes..it shrinks by the day i didnt realize i needed to dry it really fast...

It also supposedly slows the degradation process down.

I thought the same thing about putting some tacky ass bubble hash on a microplane!! Sounds like a gummy, gunky mess..
