Nugbuckets, hey what's up bro? It's your little brother Nick. Cory gave me your number but I think it's your old one. Can you text me or call at 262-429-6327? My email is [email protected]. I wanted to ask you some questions about indoor growing. I miss you man. Love ya'.

p.s. This mainlining technique is crazy! Wow. How could I be surprised though? You always had a green thumb.

Lol I hope this is a parody….Nugs ain’t been active here since 2013. Was definitely a bad ass grower and great guy. Used to like chopping it up with him back in day.

I am getting a lot of requests to put a formal "main-lining" thread together to make it easier for ya'll to access, and reference....so here goes......

"Main-Lining"

definition. a form of training and managing canopy for cannabis.....to build a "hub" off of a single node creating a "manifold" for equal energy distribution from the root mass to the growing tops.

....it really is that simple....i am sure it has been done before, and a lot of folks do it, and probably even has a name, but I just call it "main-lining".....my theory being, on a plant from seed, if all branches came off of the same node on the trunk, they should all get the same amount of hormones and nutrients ...or energy, from the root mass.....like building a "hub"........make sense? I am all about an even canopy, of very similar sized stems, and colas.....like green lady soldiers lined up ready to kick ass and take names......no weak ones, no runts, no spindly ones.....just all solid and consistant......

.......so if they all come off the main stem, like spokes on a wheel, they should all be pretty much the same.....right?

....i started growing in a closet.....it was a 32" by 32" by 48" (tall)......and i was determined not to out grow my space.....i would grow 4 plants in 3 gal. nursery pots under a single 400 watt HPS......i learned very quickly that if i wanted to end up with something smokable, i had to learn bonzai techniques in a hurry to manage my heights......so i started in with LST (low stress training), and managed a very, very modest harvest my first few attempts.......as each run progressed, i would find myself getting really anal about properly managing my 32" x32" canopy where i would jam up to 48 colas in my tiny space, and strive to make the canopy as flat as possible......

…...... i began to reap some pretty respectable harvests.......of course i would be topping the main, and spreading out the footprint of each plant, but my finished colas were not very consistant overall as far as size and weight were concerned.....and i would still end up with a fair amount of "larfy" popcorn bud from the understory, which was undesirable for me because i, and my newly found patients, were primarily flower smokers........so i dug deeper........and soon found myself in a slighty larger grow space, in a completely legal situation, allowing me to openly work on my developing theories.........

........my next grow i topped the main, and left two nodes off the main trunk, built my bonzai type structure, managed my canopy really well, but still noticed a huge difference in the energy output of the colas originating from the upper and lower node, even though they were separated by a mere inch on the trunk.....they were similar, but still varied quite a bit.......i did however end up with a decent canopy, and harvest.....i was getting closer......

.....then it hit me, that single inch on the trunk separating the two nodes was the key.....so my next grow, i decided to build the entire structure off of a single node....

I've yet tried it but do top and lollipop with decent results

Have you smoked humboldt dream queen before? How's the effect?
I smoked "dream queen" according to the guy I purchased it from 4 years ago. I do not know if it was humboldt, but the effects were a creeper high that started with euphoria and pain reduction starting from the base of my neck down. It was also great for sex, and heightens your senses including taste. It is, in my opinion, the perfect strain of cannabis to be ever made and I hope the plant I am growing is the same strain

2 Month Update: Any guesses on yield? Hoping for a pound, for the prestige of it

So good strain but its not nearly as energetic or uplifting as the name "green crack" would suggest? Like only 60% sativa effect?

This could be the first and only time that the "bout a pound" joke could actually be accurate.

If that is the final veg height a pound imo is the minimum. That is an avg to above avg yielding strain, should be 1-2 lbs imo.
Thank you, yes it is officially 6'1 at the tallest cola and 5'10 wide, 32 main lined, popped seed April 1st, went in ground first week of May, gets 2 hours shy of the entire days worth of direct sun, fed & watered properly. It's the ~3rd/4th week of flower at the time of that picture
I'll give it 3/4 of a lb. and 3/4 lb. larf.
I'm hoping for little to no larf since it is main lined and I used kyle kushmans chiropractor techniques thru the entire grow, and trimmed the shoots to the top just before the flowering stretch

It was very energetic and uplifting (the immense euphoria), officially it is a 70% sativa, but that 30% indica will only remove your light pain from neck down that you didn't realize you had. Dancing and moving your body on this strain (assuming the dq i had was humboldt) is amazing. From my experience, it's an upper that's perfect to get you off your butt and productive with a smile plastered on your face.

I was just fuckin around. Good luck to you man!

I am looking for a way to place as many plants as possible in a 4x4 space. For genetic diversity. And keep everything relatively simple and predictable. How would 9 plants with 4 colas be feasible in that space? With mainlining training. Hight is not a issue
And roughly how long would it take from day one to 12/12?
Thank you

When I read your comment, this grow journal came to mind. https://www.rollitup.org/t/hazemans-strawberry-cough.982264/

He has about a dozen plants in a 4x4 with 4 colas each, all on blumats. I like it because he uses small pots, which is necessary for the space, but eliminates the frequent feeding/watering by using blumats. When you increase the # of plants you grow, you also increase the amount of time you spend feeding/trimming/etc on a daily basis, so automation is really the way to go.

Mainlined to 32 colas. Strain: Humboldt Dream Queen. Of the 32 colas, 2 were rather wimpy, but the rest 30 were really strong. Popped seeds April 1st, Harvested October 12th, went in ground mid May. Fed fox farms trio + cal mag, dug a 2x2x2 hole of organic miracle grow in ground soil from costco. Hoping this is a pound

I know OP is no longer here to answer my question but maybe someone else can help me. I've topped my plants as per step 1, i was gonna top again but I noticed some of my plants have "alternating nodes". Is this gonna be an issue or should i continue training?

The nodes begin to alternate as the plant enters it's puberty and is ready to sex it up! Perfectly normal teenage behaviour. If it's a girl pubes should show up soon but don't be surprised when the carpet doesn't match the drapes. ;)
