Hey all,

I am enjoying this new hobby of mine and also enjoying the forum and community. So many helpful people with tips and advice, which is what I am welcoming to my very first grow and journal.

Long time smoker, first time grower. Getting into this hobby really is a dream come true. I remember in high school I tried my first grow in my closet, my mom was pissed when she found it and threw it all out lol

Anyway, to present day. I'm in my office all day in my OWN home now, so why not add a grow setup?

Setup:
Mars Hydro stuff
4x4 grow tent
2x2 grow tent (probably for harvest)
TSW2000
TS600
6" fan with carbon filter
4" fan with carbon filter (extra, backup)
---------
5x DWC bucket
500*gph air pump
8w air pump (backup)
2x4 inch cylinder airstones

Random stuff:
2x Honeywell fan
1x oscillating Lasko fan
Amazon humidifier with 1 gal tank
Vivosun PH and PPM meter
AC infinity heat mat

Nutrients:
Jacks 321
Southern AG GFF
pH down and up

Seeds (autoflower):
Seedsman Alaskan Purple x3
Seedsman Critical + 2.0 x1

Week 1 - 6.8.23
  • Day temps in the 80s
  • Placed seeds directly into rockwool and then tupperware with plastic wrap over the top
  • Tap water waterings
  • Placed in grow tent @ 25% light, on top of heat mat
  • All 4 sprouted, 100% germ rate for Seedsman

After the roots started coming out the bottom of the rockwool I went ahead and set them up in the RDWC set up that I initially purchased.

Everything going well aside from the fact I have to order pH down to get things straight.

Seedlings are growing just fine with no issues - aside from needing the right pH water.

This week's f**** up:
I messed up one seedling by digging through the rockwool to see the roots. Not sure why I did that, just wanted to see for fun and also wanted to try and transplant directly to the clay pebbles with no rockwool. This was dumb and a fail which stunted this poor plant.

What I should've done differently:
Next time have the water in DWC touching bottom of the next pot until roots show, then put it 1" below the pot
Have pH down available since day 1
Don't cheap out on the hydroponic system. I bought an "rdwc" system from Vevor and this junk didn't recirculate anything at all, it was just a reservoir with pencil thin water lines that looked like trouble for the future. I will eventually switch to pure DWC.

Week 2 - 6.15.23
  • Grow tent temps have been pretty high in the mid 80s, has me worried about root rot in the future
  • First week of nutrients @ 300 PPM, I'm using the 321 formula but just using tsp as measurement
  • First water change, I disconnected the hoses and switched to just DWC. Water changes for 4 buckets and nutrient/pH adjustment takes less than an hour
  • Roots poking out the basket
What I should've done differently:
I realized that I should've invested in a humidifier, my tent was always around 30 to 40 rh, I bought one and added it to the tent. Was only $20 and I know the plants like it

This week's f**** up:
None, yet
