The Panic Attack Genotype

I’ve had panic attacks, anxiety attacks and paranoia which are all three different and not at all the same. For me, all 3 were induced by cannabis.
After years of intense passion for cannabis and enjoying cannabis with passionate exuberance, I stopped using cannabis in 1996. After a series of heavy panic attacks in 1996, I flushed a couple of ounces down the toilet. The toilet is literally how I got rid of my entire stash and have not consumed any since 1996. I smoked heavily for years before having any panic attacks.
But it seems to me, now, that the cannabis community is learning about panic attacks in some users. It seems the culprit is not all cannabis and is likely only certain phenotypes (or even certain genotypes) that can cause panic attacks in certain users.
So now I’m curious to see if you know (from experience) which strains (if any) have a reputation for never causing a panic attack…or are “least” likely to cause a panic attack in those of us that are predisposed to panic attacks with certain strains.
It sure would be amazing and beyond wonderful if I could somehow smoke again (without a panic attack).
Your thoughts are appreciated more than I can put into words.

Some people are just prone to panic attacks with weed. Back when my friends and I would go camping in high school, someone in the group would always freak out when we passed the blunt around. It also comes down to frequency of use, the more frequent you use it, the less negative effects you notice. In general stay away from Sativas, and try out different purple strains with lots of myrcene. ALSO, very important, some people are just THC sensitive, so try some 1:2 THC:CBD strains with right around 5-10% THC only, start with one hit and see how it affects you, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

The right pheno of jack herer.

But that is heavy. I think op would do well with a 50/50 thc cbd type flower. Or something with more modest 5% - 10% thc & 1% - 10% cbd type of numbers.

The added cbd should help eliminate the anxiety aspect.

Sativas seem to induce the most anxiety or panic attacks judging from my personal observation over the last 5 years. I'm a retired RN and these issues along with reported hyperemesis raised my curiosity because I've smoked since the mid-60's. 1960's.

If weed reviews say it's energizing or it's great daytime working smoke try something else. If this information fails you please let me know. Avoid any concentrates. Sometimes just the feeling you might be losing control somehow can induce anxiety or panic

Jillybean. The terps and flavor, the yield are all top notch, you can get the f2's these days. I grew it around 2011.

Very nice physical effect, if smoked enough will certainly build a tolerance quickly. Nothing in 20 plants made me sweat, just relaxing and mood boosting.

Like you back in the 90’s I smoked but due mostly to lack of access I rarely did until 2007 when I got a card. My first strains I grew were Sativa because I wanted to be high but not tired. They guys at the dispensary would try to get me to try indicas but I insisted on mostly Sativas. I grew some fantastic XJ-13 which is Jack Herer X G13 but no matter what I always got an uneasy anxiety from smoking weed. I would get this self judging weird feeling I can’t explain but it sucked. Anyways I got into Indicas and which is all I smoke now and I don’t have any of the weird side effects like with the Sativas. In fact I can smoke a strain and know immediately if it’s has too much % Sativa for me. I had some of that XJ13 left over and when I mixed it with a heavy indica in a joint it worked out for me. I like Jamaican Pearl but it was too heavy of a Sativa so I crossed it with Afghani and that’s the perfect daytime strain for me. So try some heavy indicas. Just my $.02

Benadryl is an anticholinergic.

"Anticholinergic Side Effects
In addition to muscle contractions, certain types of acetylcholine regulate memory, learning, and sensations. Since anticholinergic drugs aren’t specific to the types of receptor they block, they can trigger a range of side effects impacting both the body and mind.

These include:

Dry mouth due to the inhibition of the salivary glands
Sore throat due to decreased mucus production
Absence of sweating
Increased body temperature
Light sensitivity due to slowed pupil dilation
Blurred vision or double vision
Increased heart rate to compensate for changes in vascular function
Poor coordination due to altered muscle control
Urinary incontinence when sleeping
Bowel leakage
Confusion
Memory problems
Incoherence
Inability to concentrate
The tendency to be startled easily
Hallucinations
Dementia"

I'll stick to bud and a racing heart for a few minutes.

Weed that was harvested to early imo can be the culprit for panic attacks. Also, stay away from sativas if you're prone to panic attacks. Gelato has a great carefree buzz. Might want to try that one out. Or a good kush.

If I had to use pharma meds to smoke pot I'd quit too. Cannabis keeps me off anti-depressants, pain meds, prostate meds and has been the main reason I haven't eaten my shotgun 20 years ago.

Benadryl gets you so fucked up you won't even feel the pot ffs. lol
Research benadryl, it's a dirty drug, meaning it has numerous side affects aside from antihistamine. It's a lazily designed drug that has never fully been exposed for its bad qualities

I've done my research. I have bad reactions to insect bites especially spiders so use a benadryl dab pen to put on individual bites right after they happen. In my pocket when I'm outside in bug season. Totally stops the swelling and itch in minutes so I ain't giving that up. :)

Next summer I'll try my CBD in DMSO on a few bites and see if that works. Helps lots with painful joints when they get really bad.

:peace:

Could have been laced weed, not that i’m denying anxiety attacks, especially from early harvests that will keep you lying awake all night. I’d mix it with some alcohol:eyesmoke:

I've had similar experiences, extreme anxiety and panic attacks. I think It's down to the phenotype mostly. All I smoke now is StarDawg and it makes me extremely chilled out and relaxed :bigjoint:
