The Person behind the grow?

I often sit back and wonder why people grow is it for money, self use, medical reasons or just simply that’s their calling their passion. Myself cannabis is genetically connected to my family for years growing up in California in the 70’s and 80’s hanging around sacred seeds watching Joe an David at work was like viewing Rembrandt paint a masterpiece right before your eyes. Selling original skunk # 1 seeds right out the door for 2 bucks a piece lol. Then came Ronald Reagan and his DEA with his so called war on drugs. After the raid shit kinda fell apart for a bit but eventually Joe moved to Canada Dave to Holland and shortly after I followed trail to Amsterdam where I lived and studied for a couple years. Now back in the states doing my same thing I was doing back then. So in my case it’s always was about the passion of creating something beautiful. So tell me what’s behind your grow?

I a little confused you grow as a hobby, so you have a vegetable garden? Well I actually enjoy growing anything. Just planted some flowers for the wife today. It’s all fun!
I have a few people I donate to that have serious and chronic medical conditions. Nothing wasted. Which is a great feel-good thing for me and a motivation - but I do that because I can as a result of it being a hobby that I enjoy.

I did use to have a business selling cactus (hydroponically grown) and succulents online - that became work though and not so enjoyable. Otherwise, I occasionally grow peppers for my own selfish consumption. I'd branch out more into veggies if I had the space and budget; and probably will some day.

Always give back God is good! I see you all pay your dues that’s great to hear. I’m thankful time has changed things over the years. We would of never thought back in the 70’s or 80’s states would legalize it. For years I had to hide under the radar and now in my state I can grow legally God Bless America!

Ever since I was a late teen I always wanted to grow, don't know why it just seemed cool. Some time ago it became legal in my state to do so, and one day (April 12 2019) I was looking for a new hobby and he hit me, grow some fucking weed. So I started. I have lots of hobbies, but the things I like about growing is it gives something to do for little bit each day right at home.

Plus it doesn't take a toll on my body like golf and bowling, two things I love. When I golf my lower back hurts for a few days and I walk crooked. Bowling, I suffered a pretty bad left knee (my slide foot) injury 30 years ago and as I age it bothers me more and more. When I go bowling I know I am going to walk in pain for a few days after. But I still do both because I do love them, just not as often as I would like.

I just like watching the plants develop and honestly seedlings and veg is my favorite part of it all. I just give it away to people I know, I don't want to smoke the same strain over and over again. There is so much to try.

Only if we could do the things we use to I can totally relate an although I try to stay active I feel every bit of my age. Your right growing takes you to another place it’s calming and laid back. Since my retirement in 2016 I’ve been able to focus more of my time towards growing. That’s why I started this thread I wanted to get behind the plant focus on why people grow. Thanks for your input. Great Luck with your GRO

Grew veggies and dainty flowers for years. Then weed to pay my bar tab. Legalization and to help my friends and family not be further exploited by the system. I've made a few bucks. Yet t is always that peace and satisfaction from knowing you did something right. And may just be a bit more in tune with reality than most.

It is instinct or something else to me. Deep satisfaction. No profit and happier than ever in my varied gardens. LOL.

Mostly cuz it’s fun and I like to learn new things.

But also because a couple friends and to a lesser extent myself spend a good chunk of cash on dried up dispensary bud.

One of my main motivations right now is to finally smoke super fresh, harvested at the right time, properly cured weed.

And the whole harvesting at different times for different effects thing has me interested also.

When I started growing I consumed a lot. Growing cannabis, I fell in love with gardening in general and started keeping gardens and other indoor plants. I stopped consuming and growing years ago. A couple years back, a family member asked if I could help them with a home grow, and I got back into it. I really love to grow cannabis, it's a nice plant. I don't sample what I grow. It all goes to family and close friends.

And as a kicker. My hash got myself and a few others off opiates.

First drag was in 1987 i think, in New Jersey...loved it ever since but couldn't grow. Friend and i tried a guerilla grow once but yeah, ditch weed fail. So we just bought...chasing that almighty dollar kept me in places i couldn't grow but kept smoking. Finally in 2014 luck changed and now im on 40 acres and been dialing in the grows and finding my groove. Friends went to jail for this plant, I've been arrested twice...and still my love for this gift from god has not diminished.

I grow for the fun of it. Every time I start off I'm thrilled at watching the process. I sell a bit to cover expenses. Give away a lot.
What I really like is every grow gives me some kind of GAWD DAMNED PROBLEM AND I SWEAR IT'S THE LAST!
But I get seeds from someone or I'm asked if I've got more and I feel O.K. I'll go again.
I hardly smoke any. An oz lasts me about 3 mos.

Legalization and to help my friends and family not be further exploited by the system.
That's the other thing that moves me. The raping prices that people are forced to pay. I asked one guy I give it to what he pays at the dispensary.
$50 for an 1/8!! WTF!! He said some other strains go higher. We figured one strain was at $540 an oz. when cutup into 1/4s. $480 straight out.
Most I've ever charged was $125 oz. I felt guilty. It was my last oz. My friend wanted it and that's what he offered.
