The delema is that many of the meds given to those who may be considering suicide or violence have the side effect of either making those tendencies worse or not working at all.
now let us consider that those with those feelings are subject to impulses. They are not capable of extended contemplation or planning those events. The fact that they are impulses makes their weapons of choice a fire arm. Fire arms are subject to impulsive use where no other weapon is quite so handy. Not poison, not knives, not explosives. If this is the case then we can place firearms as a portion of the equation of a while male arming himself and blowing the heads off of unsuspecting innocents.
In short - no crazy person + gun = no harm but Crazy person + no gun = no harm or less harm.
I've personally been threatened more often and severely by nuts with blades than with guns. I agree that the great benefit of the gun (force multiplier) becomes just as great a liability in an unsuited person's hands. But poison (as in thrown drain opener etc.) and knives are just as likely to be used on impulse imo. cn
