The UK Growers Thread!

250w isn't going to be enough.
But being they are autos you may be able to run less than full.

You would have to check your DLI, because that's what's going to count.

You are giving them an extra 6 hours than I would so your DLI would be the same but at less power with more hours.

But I dont grow autos so please research required DLI to find the sweet spot for your space with your hours of light
Thanks loads,

i had to search DLI to find out what is meant, i haven't got a DLI reader, but the light will be a migro aray 4 500w. From what i've read, these perform exceptionally well when it comes to leds/par e.t.c.. I don't know if i'll end up getting a dli meter, by the sound of it i'll probably have to.

You mentioned i was giving them an extra 6 hours, do you run them at 24? Is this better for the plants or with them being auto's do you just give them 4 to 5 weeks of full-on 24/7 light?

Thanks again.

Thanks.

I had to search what dli was as i've never heard the term before.

I'm probably going to need a meter or something to read it.

I'll be using a migro 4 500w, from what i've read they're quite good for getting the right light in the right places and so might be okay for dli, but i don't know.

Thanks again.

I run photo periods.. so 12/12, hence you are giving them 6 more hours light.

I'm not an auto guy at all but I believe it's standard to go with 18/6 or 20/4 ..
Not 24/0

You should be able to calculate the DLI by finding your lights ppfd .. which shouldn't be difficult since Shane publishes all his data on his lights.

You'd probably get better info in the LED section on DLI
And in the Auto growers section.

UK electricity costs/amount of light required:

Originally it was my intention to get a migro aray 4 500w and a MH 4X4 tent, after looking at electricity costs i decided i'm going to get a migro 3 250w and a MH 3X3 tent so it was more doable financially. I'll copy/paste my questions to bing ai

Searching for: cost of running migro aray 3 at 125watts for 18hours a day for 4weeks in 2024
Searching for: cost of running migro aray 3 at 250watts for 18hours a day for 6weeks in 2024

The cost of running a Migro Aray 3 at different wattages for a certain number of hours a day over a period of weeks depends on the electricity rate in your area. You can calculate the cost using the following formula:
Cost=Power (kW)×Time (hours)×Electricity Rate (per kWh)×Number of DaysCost=Power (kW)×Time (hours)×Electricity Rate (per kWh)×Number of Days
Assuming the electricity rate is £0.129 per kWh1, which is the forecasted price for 2024 in the UK:
  1. For the Migro Aray 3 running at 125 watts (or 0.125 kW) for 18 hours a day for 4 weeks (or 28 days), the cost would be:
    Cost=0.125 kW×18 hours/day×£0.129 per kWh×28 days=£81.756Cost=0.125kW×18hours/day×£0.129per kWh×28days=£81.756
    Rounding off to the nearest penny, this would be approximately £81.76.
  2. For the Migro Aray 3 running at 250 watts (or 0.25 kW) for 18 hours a day for 6 weeks (or 42 days), the cost would be:
    Cost=0.25 kW×18 hours/day×£0.129 per kWh×42 days=£245.268Cost=0.25kW×18hours/day×£0.129per kWh×42days=£245.268
    Rounding off to the nearest penny, this would be approximately £245.27.
So, the total cost of running the Migro Aray 3 at 125 watts for 4 weeks and then at 250 watts for 6 weeks would be £81.76 + £245.27 = £327.03.
  1. For the Migro Aray 3 running at 100 watts (or 0.1 kW) for 18 hours a day for 4 weeks (or 28 days), the cost would be:
    Cost=0.1 kW×18 hours/day×£0.129 per kWh×28 days=£65.376Cost=0.1kW×18hours/day×£0.129per kWh×28days=£65.376
    Rounding off to the nearest penny, this would be approximately £65.38.
  2. For the Migro Aray 3 running at 200 watts (or 0.2 kW) for 18 hours a day for 4 weeks (or 28 days), the cost would be:
    Cost=0.2 kW×18 hours/day×£0.129 per kWh×28 days=£130.752Cost=0.2kW×18hours/day×£0.129per kWh×28days=£130.752
    Rounding off to the nearest penny, this would be approximately £130.75.
So, the total cost of running the Migro Aray 3 at 100 watts for 4 weeks and then at 200 watts for 4 weeks would be £65.38 + £130.75 = £196.13.

In arrears with the utility co' so £327 in 10 weeks will be taking the piss and they'll be round with a locksmith, what i'm wondering is, is it possible to veg at 100w and flower at 200w and still get a decent result? Would anyone care to estimate how much i will lose in yield please?

Thanks in advance for any advice issued!

Two questions.

1. Where are you getting the 12.9p per kilowatt hour electricity rate?

Because that's very low. Like way less than the real kwh rate of 28.6p

You are also not taking into account the day charge? 53.4 pence a day

2. Are you on a smart meter?

I googled bubbas gift for feedback and yeah it appears highly rated among the growers.

Has anyone ordered from America before?
I was thinking about ordering blueberry seeds but $30 postage seems rather excessive?
