Thin/Narrow buds?

Hi. I've got an auto going outdoors from The Joint Doctor. The strain is called Ogre.
Right now, she's on day 73. She's been in flower for awhile, but her buds just aren't fattening up at all. They are really thin. I'd guess that their diameter is about like that of a No. 2 pencil.

To contrast, I have another outdoor auto on day 73 with some nice fat and dense buds. She's a Sour Bubblin' Crack from Mephisto.

Are there some strains that start out really thin and fatten considerably in the last couple weeks? Is there anything I can do to get those buds growing? Or, do just have a low yielder here?

Ya, some do fatten up late, but watch yr trichs to tell when its ready.

Bring 'em inside and put them under a 600w hps for 2-3 weeks

The SBC fattened up and produced some decent smoke. The Ogre was a disappointment. Not a good smoke and very thin, fluffy buds. I won't grow that strain again.

Auto's overall are low yielders.

Guess I'll throw my auto freebies outside this spring. No need wasting electricity on low yielding plants.

I'm a new grower, and this was the first time I've tried growing autos. Even though I didn't have great luck with them this year, I'm not ready to write them off completely yet. I've got a few auto beans I'm going to pop next spring/summer, but more for fun and experience than for great yields. Although I do have one seed of Think Different which is supposed to be a big producer.

Autos blow, grow photos for better quality.

I am a noob and don't listen to my advice lol, but when I did some research on autos I was told indoors best off photos because of light hours unless CFL's but needs good lights....

Anyway so I said what about outdoor and the man said he had good results with autos in a greenhouse grow, it's best for it and he had potent and good yielding autos.

I am in the UK so Im not sure how it well would be in hot climate

Yeah autos are a crap shoot. So much back crossing to get ruderalis tendencies into a strain make them like a box of chocolates. Never know what your are going to get. You could grow the very two same strains as the OP again and get opposite results.

I stick auto flowers in with my photoperiods in my flowering tent since my seed bank always gives me a few freebies of them..i like to call them the "friend bud". its the weed you give your friends if theyre fiending while you smoke your photoperiods

If the sun was up 20/4 it would be best but it's not...

sorry pal.8-12 hours of daylight equals or out weighs 24 hrs of HPS when it comes to photosynthetically active radiation and the energy a plant can produce for growth. Yes bringing plants in from the sun and putting them under lights can have benefits in some instances. In this case though its almost certainly was a genetic issue.

Interesting read al, I didn't get irrefutable data out of it to dispel my statement. Although you found a scholarly article you failed to think critically. The majority of their readings came from mid summer when the suns at it's strongest, in a GREENHOUSE. Also didn't account for overcast and even more importantly shadows. Environmental factors play a huge role in plant health, if you're going to sit there and tell me optimal conditions in a controlled environment don't compare to growing outside growing then I'll take a seat and let others argue with you.

Again good read al..for supplemental lighting in a greenhouse.

And this thread was begun the first of August. The plant was grown under the summer sun. In a container, in what looked to be a very open area. My guess is it was moved around and received sunlight morning till night. OP can correct me if I am wrong.

I'm staying out of this debate, but I will say the plants received 10-12 hours of direct sunlight every day in the middle of summer.
But I'm a very new grower and they may have done better under a more experienced thumb.

You did fine. The amount and type of light they received almost certainly was not the issue. One had fat buds, the other not. Like I said before. You could grow the same two strains again and get totally opposite results. Its just part of the Auto flower game. Keep growing and learning.
