This is what the form said.

I had to have an emergency visit to the dentist today. My old dentist retired so I'm at the new dentist and filling out the new patient form and on it there was this one line.

'Do you consume alcohol, cocaine, or other drugs?'

I immediately made a loud, but friendly, statement that they were lumping a legal substance in with illegal substances and I thought that it was wrong and if I checked the book did it mean I was admitting to using cocaine, instead of alcohol?

Pissed me off in, geez there's another attempt to control your thought process, kinda way.

lol Thats funny. You should have circled which one applied to you. Wouldn't that question be more of a discriminatory kind of question? They are basically insinuating if you consume any kind of legal alcoholic beverage that you would also be a cocaine and or drug user. :bigjoint:

P.S. 800 dollars for one single cap? That's incredible. Got a plan?

They ask that question because if you're having operative work done they know what anesthetic to give you.
All numbing anesthetic has epinephrine in it. Some more than others, it usually depends on how long you need to be numb for. Epinephrine causes your heart to race, blood pressure to go up... so on. If you're using drugs that do the same it could be fatal to you.
They'er just trying to watch their asses, legally. 90% of people don't fill out a medical history honestly.
But if anything did happen, they have a paper with your signature saying that you don't use drugs that can make epinephrine fatal.

When my dentist's assistant asked me the usage questions and I got a little butthurt about it, she explained that they needed to have some idea of my tolerance for when they numb me. That someone who was used to alcohol and drugs would get a bigger dose than someone who didn't party at all. She could have been lying but she was rocking a fuzzy sweater and pencil skirt so I bought it.

EDIT: beaten to the punch

OH MY GOSH, what a fucking idiot dentist. Sometimes we have to send baby patients(usually 3&under) to CDP, that's where they do full sedation because they can't give enough anesthetic for all the work their little bodies need.

What's wrong with doing coke, drinking beer, and smoking down all at once. I do it all the time :). Besides, the blow will numb your mouth if you do some numbies LOL!

I still think it's slightly scary that they have no idea how anesthesia even works, watched a doco about people being paralyzed but not knocked out during surgery, fucked up.
