Time to transplant?

so, just noticed that the blue mystic's roots have reached the side and bottom of the pot. it's planted in a 1/2 gallon pot. only a few roots have made it to the bottom/sides of the pot. they are clear, and i realized that roots stop growing when they come into contact with air or light.
i wrapped 2 layers of wrapping paper around the side of the pot (with the two colored sides facing in, white on the outside to reflect light). will this be sufficient? also, do i need to transplant now that a few roots are showing? or can i wait? i only have limited vertical space, so i was considering a low, but wide pot.
btw, they're two weeks old

no you can wait at least another 3-4 weeks to transplant. I usually start my seedlings in 16 oz party cups, and it will take approx 4 weeks until I can transplant out of them.

Sorry to disagree Stoner, that plant needs a new home. Shorter and wider is fine but that much root in that pot for another 3-4 weeks is likely gonna cause her to be root bound. Her growth will be stunted and will induce nute lock. This time do not put her in a pot that allows light seepage though. Good Luck!

Shorter but wider will still work, its more about capacity of pot. A plant will only grow as big as its roots can basically. But by looking at your picture its going to be very difficult to transplant something that small, there's only 2 small roots that can be seen, making it very very fragile. I suggest NOT transplanting yet damaging a plant before it has even gotten out of its seedling stage is very risky, plant could go into shock and stop growing or could even potentially die. Plants don't like change, the less transplant you do the better. hope that helps.

i made the mistake of planting in miracle gro organic soil. now that i'm transplanting, is it ok to use a different soil for the rest of the space? i was thinking fox farms?
but the miracle gro has time release stuff in it. so i'm not sure.
here's a picture, day 14 from seed

Replanting into Fox Farm is a fine idea imo. The soils won't react with each other, and I am very pleased with how Happy Frog feels and works. Plant is still too tender for Ocean Forest imo. cn

I disagree, the faster you get a larger root system the better. Under a 250W MH I get to transplant time from party cups in 14 days. I've always just treated the plants gently and watered with a couple drops of Superthrive after and they don't skip a beat. It's amazing how fast the root system will fill its new container, I can't imagine wanting to delay that process for another 2 weeks.
