timers and extension cords

I was wondering if I can use my timer with an extension cord with my 400hps.. My growrom has no sorce of power the nearest outlet is about 5 feet away whatever can I do this thanks in advanced

i myself have a 8 ft 14 gauge ext. cord with my timer plugged in to it and my stripp logged into the timer and my 1000wtt hps and two 20 box fans plugged in . no problems.

Use extension cords made for appliances if at all possible and you will never have to worry about anything. If you don’t then you are taking a degree of risk. Also do not use any extension cord that is longer than it has to be.

the way i would do it is plug your timer into the outlet then plug a power strip into the timer. then if you still need more length plug a n extention cord into that. just make sure to use a grounded timer. you can get hevy duty grounded timers at menards. about $10

yes, grounded timers are a must
for the first couple of days check to see if the timer is in tact and whatnot.

and if your going to use an ext.cord then check the plug in ends to make sure they are not getting hot.

lol This is my exact set up and has been working fine.

I run a 400w MH on a 14 gauge ext. cord with a timer, I also have other stuff plugged in to it like fans and such with no problems.

just make sure it is a heavy grounded cord and you will be aok. seen some stuff set up with those skinny lamp ex cords.. looks like a fire waiting to happen lol.

hell yea nigga..thats what i use!!! by this i dnt mean those crappy 1 dollar christm,as light extension cords tho!!! na i mean those nice,orange heavy duty cords....theyr fairly cheap..but if u do mean a cheap ass extensiob cord,u could still use it..just watch out u dnt wipe out ur town!!

When I bought my timer it said not to use with extension cords. Looks like more than enough people say its ok so... Ok! Thank you all for your help. I just watch fox 11 news and some politicians are trying to legalize marijuana in california and if passes it will be taxed At 50 dollars an oz.
