Tis the season: bubblelicious and superskunk 400W grow

I put the skunks in the real sunshine yesterday; good opp'y to take some real-light pics. I couldn't get decent angles for the whole plant pics, but the close ups are nice.

In case you've ever wondered why cloning was invented, just look how different these buds are from the same seed batch. And the one plant (the less triched-out one; left in the middle pic) caught a fungus and the other didn't, even though they sit next to each other all day.

Day 60 from seed to soil; 12/12 all the way. The first two pic's are one pheno; last two the other. In the middle, the first pheno is on the left. She looks bigger, but she's on a stand; she's actually about 4" shorter (they're 32 and 36").

Thanks, bro.. them skunks are getting heavy - I'm having to prop 'em up now.

Chopped my seeded buds today -- 67 beautiful beans. I'll try to motivate some pic's tomorrow...

Some of the bud I chopped earlier went into jars yesterday. Smokes great, a little airy, though, so I'm leaving it on the tree for now waiting for more pistil retraction.

I teased another bean out of the seeded bud to check ripeness -- it was perfect, so I took down the two buds I'd pollinated. I also found a little bud that had hermied itself, and took it, too.

I ended up with 67 seeds -- 40 that I cross-pollinated, and 27 from the hermie bud. I'm keeping them separate so I can see how they perform versus each other. The pic is just a little sample; didn't really want 67 beans running around the table first thing Sunday morning.

I also took a shot of the bud I took down a week or so ago. It dried a little airy, IMO, so I'm standing pat on any further harvest. I think the first bud I picked that dried hard was an individual bud running ahead of schedule (seems like the single buds on the mainstem do this). She's got some beautiful colors though, including some purple here and there, and it still smokes great. It's fascinating how it dries -- it loses all color at first and goes completely green, then bluish-gray green, and now what you see here. The couple branches I took filled two mason jars, so there's a lot of smoke there for the interim. I figure at least another week, maybe two - I really want to see them plumped up as tight as I can get them.

Okay... Having done a little more legwork, I think the Queen's finish is being held back by too much N in the 7-9-5 I've been using. Thinking about pulling out some Tiger Bloom next feed, then trailing her off on plain water from there. Maybe put the skunks on it too...

Getting to the end here.. the oncoming summer is blowing the lid off the room temps, too, so some of this might not get all the "finish" it needs. I'm hitting 86-90 in the daytime now and the electric bill is heinous enough without trying to cool a bunch of weeds. Def need to upgrade to real exhaust next year.

The Queen is mostly chopped -- I have her lower half up to the light now (first three pic's; the two top colas are down now). Not sure why even; there's more weed than I'll ever smoke already jarred up. The other day, I took 3/4 of the remainder of last year's grow and ran 'er down the garbage disposal. Was good weed, but what the hell am I supposed to do with it all?

This particular bubblelicious plant was actually a little disappointing as a plant. Atypical sativa pheno, long flowering fluffy bud, never really fattened up or stopped springing fresh pistils - hate that. The superskunks were superior in every way (growth wise at least). The stuff smokes great though; guess that's what counts.

The superskunks look great (next 3 pics), and are maturing a hella lot faster than the bubblelicious did. That may be next year's grow right there --- superskunk 12/12 from seed. They loved the 12/12 regime and produced a shitload on more compact plants (but, not "small" in any way - still 34-36" tall and loaded). These nugs are tight as can be, too -- mind-blowing rock hard. The trichs are going cloudy now; pistils browing and receding - some of this may come down this weekend. All in all, I'm very happy about these plants -- so glad I sprung them.

That's about it. Comment away if you wish. I'll probably put up some pic's of the jars when they're done, then disappear for awhile. Hope you enjoyed it; maybe learned some thing(s). I know I did...:blsmoke: Thanks to everyone who hung out with me on this grow.

Thanks to you both for the kind words and hanging out my grow and throwing in some good comments. Glad I was able to throw a useful comment or two up for you as well.

This has been a good one -- I have no doubt this weed will last a long time. And I feel like I'll go into the next one really feeling like I know what I'm doing! That will be fun!

I looked em all over pretty good today -- the one skunk could use another week, but it's time to shut 'er down, Mikey. I think the whole she-bang will come down this weekend. I'll try to get some harvest pic's up. It's going to be a lot of trimming.

BEST GROW I'VE EVER SEEN!!!! HUNG IN THERE FROM START TO FINISH AND PICTURES OF THE BUD WERE A PLUS!!!! only other thing you could have included was yield but thats just my opinion!!! Good joB

Thanks, bc... I appreciate the compliment. I tell ya', these journals take more work than it appears.

I still have a group of jars getting their "daily burp", so I'm still losing a little weight. Don't have a scale though, for an exact measurement. Right now, I've got 14 mason jars; 12 are full; 2 are about half-full with the best-of-the-best in them (I like to keep the primo shit separate). They're about evenly split between the bubblelicious and the superskunk. I'll try to motivate myself to post some final pics.

BTW, the superskunk came out KILLER!! OMG... best smoke I've had in a long time. Fast-acting, one-hit shit. Nice balance between stoned and spaced out, and energy. A perfect one-hit before a Mtn bike ride or snowboard run. I am so stoked about it.

thanks K for posting your grow and all the info+ rep on that ... my son is out of town this weekend and will be bringing back cuttings of bubblelicious , looking forward to growing it out , will be using pollen from orange bud and may scale back by pollinating another site with arrora indica,you've grown it out what do you think, i usually don't cross this is my first exp. with clone all other grows i have had the ability to grow from seed and pick my males for pollen ....rob

I don't know that I have much to offer on your question. The bubblelicious I had was a sativa pheno, which is not typical (it's 75% indica genes; I ended up with the freak). I would have loved to cross my particular plant with Aurora and maybe get the best of the big, vigorous growth of my plant and the shorter finish and tighter head-bud formation of Aurora.

But no reason not to try it out. What I can tell you is that, using the method I used, you only get seeds where you want them. So, you can control how much of what you have and where on the plant. I used some lower fluff as "mother buds", and the seeds look great without sacrificing any quality smoke. Pollinating two buds like this gave me 83 seeds (found another 16 after my first count) - a total bonus.

sounds good , the cuttings were starting to bloom i may wind up with bonsai plants and may use them primarily for seed,two days and it looks like 7 of the 8 are still holding on strong

ha i got 2 400w mh lights with ballasts and reflective aluminum hoods about 18 inches in diameter for 5 bucks each. even came with the bulbs but bought more for only a dollar each. got them from the habitat for humanity store that when they sell something it goes toward building peoples houses or something i tink. bu if you have a store like that around you you should check it out. the one ner me also has wood and crates and well justabout anything you couls use to build a good grow room. the even have flex ductwork and inline fans. all that stuff. cheap as hell.
