Tobacco history...?

My fear is that corporations will take over the MJ supply chain
and it will be sold like cigarettes.

Did tobacco ever get sold by it's strain and qualities
to people with a genuine love of the substance
rather than just in packs
to folk who thoughtlessly smoke it???

(BTW I DO LOVE TOBACCO
which is probably the next most politically incorrect thing
after being a member AQ)

i like to think of more as the beer market, instead of the cigarette market. sure, people can buy all of the budweiser, or pabst blue ribbon, (two of the cheaper beers here in the states for those outside of us of a), or they can also buy some specialty micro brew, strawberry pine fart with a splash of fairy dust beer, by their fave micro brewery..
micro brews are really taking off the last few years and are the place most beer snobs turn to to fill their need for something a bit different..
the same could be said for cannabis if big tobacco took over.. sure, one might be able to buy malrboro red cannabis, or newport green goodness, but they might also be able to buy something from a smaller company, the micro brewers of the canna world if you would, where they're more concerned over quality than quantity..
my $.02, but if that doesn't happen, just stock pile all the genetics you want now.. i really don't see big tobacco getting involved in cannabis for years and years though, at least not in my life time, and i'm 42 atm..

I dont know about europe but but hear in the USA home production of tobacco for personal consumption is legal , Im not aware of any regulation that would limit tobacco differently than any other common plant/crop.
Sales of whole leaf (fermented) is legal , you only run into regulation once it's proccesed for use (shreaded)

Tobacco still gets sold by it's strain / qualities . In the growing regions their are many auctions where you can chose from 1,000's of different strains of tobacco . Many of these auctions are open to the public . I also see whole leaf tobacco for sale by strains in many small hippy stores and internet herbal places.
The only reason it's not readly avaible is theirs not much demand for it , most find the batch to batch differences to be great , and would rather have a 'standardised' product

before the collapse of the soviet union, my granparents went to russia. Thy brought me pack 2 packs of russian cigs. one was lifht one was regulare. it was the best tobacco I've ever smoked. Fantastic stuff. the smoke was blue. it was smooth but potent. Damn was it good! the only thing I'v smoked that was close was a pack of Dutch Camels. those were completely different than American Camesl.

i don't know the name of the russian brand but i'd love to get that seed and grow it! the pack had a schooner on it but the brand name was in Cyrillic so I have little to go on

not by me, same story. i need to quit, but i enjoy it too much. same brand, same scene. racer is right though, there is so much variation, that cannabis can't be completely commercialized.
