is there any point topping a sativa ?? does it make it shorter ??

yeah with careful pruning you can train a sativa to be more bushy

could i use it throughout the whole grow because the bulb has a multispectrum ?

Yeah you could do and it wouldn't alter the quality of the bud you get, but a metal halide will keep the plants shorter than a hps for veg. The plants will stretch a bit in comparison to vegin under a halide or blue light spectrum bulb.

could i put a mh bulb in my hps

You can but need the ballast that will do both. I have one that has the cooling tube on it, with a fan built in.
I also top sativas to keep em bushy and get lots of smaller colas. My height is limited in the cabinet so knda have to top them.
