Training mothers from seed?

Tolerance Break

Well-Known Member
I popped some seeds recently, and instead of going "fuck it" and just kind of topping wherever, I am curious if any of y'all have a method to your madness.

Thanks in advance - TB

Just top early and often so you have plenty of short nodes. I try to keep them as small as I can for as long as I can, keep in small 4 inch pots and then if they still look good in 6-8 months, I'll trim the roots and put in some fresh soil. I give them less light under T5s and then stick them under stronger leds when I want to take cuttings. Keep them thinned out too-they turn into little bushes otherwise and that's when pests can start evading your IPM. You only really need a handful of growing tips at any given time if you are just trying to sustain the plant for the future, and if the plant gets overgrown or you mess it up somehow, just take a new cutting and start over. Ideally, you don't want them to touch each other to prevent pathogen spread, and a weekly IPM spray is essential to safeguard your investment. I'm a big fan of the IPM basics-neem oil, yucca extract, citric acid, and beneficial bacteria. If you're working with new clones and don't know their disease status, keep them separate from the rest of your mommies and sterilize your tools in a 10% bleach solution or fire between plants (alcohol and h202 will not kill viroids).
