Transition to bloom, plants look hungry but high runoff ppm, pictures within

I'm growing 2 Chem '91 x Chem D plants in 5 gal pots of promix hp. LED light set to provide about 700 ppfd at the highest part of the canopy, and water around 5.8 ph. I'm using tap water with less than 100 ppm so supplementing with calmag until it hits 200ppm and then I add maxigrow/maxibloom nutrients until my total feed ppms are around 700. Aside from red stems which I think is a phosphorous or magnesium deficiency the plant looks OK so far but hungry.

My question has to do with runoff ppm and the fact that it always comes out a few hundred points higher than my input water. Also my input ph of waterings are about 5.8 but runoff ph is around 6.1

I've been giving half the recommended dosage for maxigrow during veg so maybe that's the reason they look a little yellowish green. If I mix their recommended dose it's over 1000 ppm and I don't want to burn the plants chasing yield.

My understanding is that there is salt built up in the promix and I have to flush with a nutrient solution but maybe I ought to just feed higher ppms... I'm also apprehensive to keep adding nitrogen during flower because of some things I've read.

Thanks for any help, tips, tricks, advice, and or jokes20240107_161637.jpg20240107_161632.jpg20240107_161626.jpg

Looks to me like they could use some Epsom in the mix for added magnesium.
I haven’t used anything but soil to grow, but your runoff being only a couple hundred ppm higher isn’t bad from what I’ve read. (Again.. in soil. Not sure if this applies with other mediums.)
PH don’t look bad either. I think some just want more feed than others. During the stretch they probably ate up a lot, now it’s being taken out on the leaves.
Not sure if this helps at all in promix. I was just hangin around, and figured I’d give it a shot.

Thanks, I think I'll try this.

One question I had with using epsom salt is how is it used by itself without throwing off the magnesium to calcium ratio? Also, I know its been beaten like a dead horse but could more calmag be an appropriate solution?

I'd do a folier spray with epsom. 1 teaspoon-tablespoon per gallon on the underside at lights out.

How much Maxi and calmag per gallon? Anything else?

Run off is few hundred ppm over feed ppm? How many hundred is a few? What is the EC? Its best to use ec as there are 3 different conversion from ec to ppm.

I'll consider this as well. One thing is I'm 11 days since flip to 12/12 and I read foliar spraying in flower is no good.... But I don't have any buds at all yet so maybe it's alright?

Did you start feeding bloom nutes as soon as you flipped?
I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't feed bloom nutes until it's starting to flower. When it's flipped to 12/12 it stretches like crazy need lots of nitrogen. So I give them veg nutes for at least first week, sometimes two. I used to just give bloom nutes straight away but they would always fade 2 or 3 weeks into flower.

Just my 2 cents

Thanks, The past couple feedings I gave half Maxigrow and half Maxibloom

Update: Day 22 of Flower

I've been "steady Eddie" watering/feeding once every 3 days when the pots get light until very sufficient runoff. I'm talking I input approx 8 gallons of water total through two 5 gallon pots and get a nice deal of runoff. So much so that the ppm input of my feed is only 100 higher than runoff ppm.

My last watering on 1/17 I gave the plants as follows: 200ppm calmag, 50 ppm epsom salt, 150 ppm MaxiGrow, 350 ppm MaxiBloom, approx 50ppm of hydroguard/ph up= 800 ppm (1.6 EC) Runoff in the 900s

I am trying to feed every time at lower ppms rather than once a week at higher ppms.

One thing I've noticed is there seems to still be a magnesium deficiency going on. Other than that ht ebuds are coming along nicely and the small plant on the right has had the first visible trichomes forming for over a week now.

I am asking the knowledgeable folks over here at the Marijuana Plant Problem section of the forum if they have any solutions to what seemingly is a mag deficiency. Also my runofff ph is pretty good I think, it's 6.1 and my input ph is 5.8.

Much obliged
