Transplanting nessessary?

So yeah, tried transplanting seedling from a small clay pot to a bigger clay pot. Turns out I couldnt do it, either the soil would fall out or when wet wound not budge out of the pot when attempted. Is transplanting even nessessary?


Like what would happen if I planted a seedling to flowered plant in one large pot? If it got out of control big, I would just cut the top, wouldnt that just make the plant focuz on bus production????

just gotta get better at gardening. i'm not being smartass, sorry i know, but i mean, get one of those gardening shovels. it helps. i use 16 solo cups to germ in and transplant using a knife, scissors, and my next pot. i'm pretty sure there is no shock to the plant if you do it that way. I literally cut the cup into 4 or 5 sections with a good knife, making sure to remove the entire bottom. then i just cut the rest of the sections vertically and slide them out of the pre-packed soil. it's a very easy method. maybe consider using different, more disposable/breakable pots next grow.

soil sticks to clay. they never popped out when i used clay pots. i now use plastic. i let the soil get somewhat dry. then just turn them over and tap them out. they usually pop out whole.

Yes transplanting is the best way to go, if I remember correctly now don't quote me on the is but smaller plants like smaller pots because of even moisture and nutrients in the medium. Try oasis cubes or rockwool if your having transplanting problems.

you want to use small er pots at first when ther seedlings or clones so the roots can basicly get almost root bound , u want a nice root ball when you transplant, its quicker to get a root ball in a small cup than a big pot that will take for ever to be ready to transplant, oh my bad man you said dont quote me,lol

I always use my clones after I get a known female mom from seed. I like to start in my finishing container whether it be aero hydro or soil. In soil I start from day 1 in 5 gallon buckets all the way through. The less transplants the better as less stress on the plants and you. It actually better if you can do it in 1 container with no transplants

How about just using Jiffy Pots. Im such a newbie at this, I figure for my real first experience, just drop a Jiff right in a larger pot. Plastic ones seems cool though, and inexpensive, I hope.

And jiffy products kick ass. I just start in jiffy-7s and then transplant to larger pots. You can even clone in them!

i dont know where you learned your methods from but transplanting is very nessary, you never want to put a clone in a big pot, it will take a lot longer to get a estabalised root system, you want to go from seed or clone to a small straphone cup, then to a biger pot, then once more to its flowering pot, for a total of 3 transplant's, trust me this is the best and fastest way to get your plant big and strong and ready to flower.

I completely agree with Mike, don't shortcut on transplanting. There is always some work in anything that is worth doing. If you're only growing a few it will take you well under an hour. GL HH

I recently tried to change the soil I have because I was told the soil is no good (has time released ferts and is giving too much N), but when i did the plant was root bound and I was unable to get much of the soil off without damaging the roots. my plant is in flowering stage and loosing bottom leave buy the day and seems one more level will reach buds. can i risk a little damage to the roots so i can get this high fert soil out? any help would be great. and you can read my whole thread with my problems including pics.

looks like she needs nitrogen. i didn't read the thread but i did check out the pic. those yellow leaves mean your plant is using up all it's own nitrogen. you should give it a little.

people told be she had too much! and i just posted new pics check it out and reply for me please i am soooo worried. should i change the soil?

im the same if from seed i like to plant it in to the bigist pot i can get 1,half to 2gal normly, its so much stres and a pain to move from one pot to anuver,,

Thing is transplanting once in flower is just about as bad a time as you can pick as thats the time all the changes kick in so the little stress will cause havoc.Nothing wrong with time released ferts just have to take them into consideration when feeding. If you had the plant in time release ferts for 30 days or more it doesnt matter as the fert are just about gone at that point.I grow in miracle grow moisture control with time ferts and never have an isse.Look in my gallery at my moms from clones.At 30 days from cuttings in 5 gallon buckets they are beautiful thick dark green and full of sites.
