triming fan leaves

is triming fan leaves a good thing or bad? i have seen other treads were there plants have there fan leaves trimed off the plants where in flowering stage. why is this done? thanks for reply
 
people do it for couple of reasons..
1.better air circulation
2.plants energy is directed entirely towards upper buds
3.removing yellow or damaged leaves
..in general removing fan leaves is not adviced, although if u keep it to a reasonable minimum its okay..
 
people trim fan leaves if fan leaves is covering buds from light. theres no other reasons.

some leaves may be removed, but dont trim too much.
 
dont touch the fan leaves........they do not block sunlight to the buds....they gather energy from the sun to produce buds.......more leaves means more energy and more growth.....

im growing with CFL's. buds wich are growing in direct in light is bigger than those wich ar covered from light. so i trimmed 2 to 3 leaves for each plant.

but sunlight, yes, its different story.
 
If your buds under your canopy are small and wispy you should be trimming those branches in the 3rd week of flowering after the stretch, so all the plants makes is upper canopy hard thick nugs.
 
that guy fucked up his perspective yeild if you ask me....he would have gotten much more growth had he left the scissors at home and applied some lst a week or so before flowering to expose bud sites....:joint:

maybe your right. anyway - i trim some fan leaves. not more than 3 leaves to each plant, though. and i will continue to do that cause im limited to space. LST is not option for me.
 
PS my cardboard reflector still aint burned, its in condition like in day 1.
im using 40w and 2 20w cfls in it, nickfury.
 
first thanks for all the replys, i didnt trim all my fan leaves off just some that where shadeing some buds. i said i seen other threads that showed there plants with most there fan leaves off. i think in the harvesting and cure form. ps i do go to growfaq
 
your plant will naturally shed its fan leaves as it progresses through flowering and they have served their purpose for the budsite they support...you do want to remove leaves that are dying or more than 50% damaged....make sure to remove them right at the stem so as not to leave any of the leaf branch stuck in a cluster of buds to wither an mold
