Trimming and drying in pot?

Hey there,

I saw someone mention in a post a while back that they prefer to trim and dry the plant while it’s still in the container. I saw a photo of this method and it looked pretty cool — like a bonsai relic of a cannabis plant. I tried following up with questions about the advantages of this technique but didn’t get a reply.

I was thinking about using this method then giving the dried plant away as a gift, specifically for the visual impact. However, I’m wondering if there are other benefits to doing it this way. Also, are there any pitfalls I need to watch out for? Does the drying time take longer?

Im sure it takes longer and i see issues with maintaining that 62% humidity for curing after the plant is dry. I suppose u could put it in a trash bag or something but no matter what it seems like a hassle.

Oh I was just gonna give it to my buddy once it’s dry and let him cure it. Just thought it’d be a fun gift to give him a whole bonsai looking plant like that. He wanted to experiment with various curing methods anyway.

I suppose another option will be to pull the whole thing by the roots, then hang it intact as one plant. Then I could repot.

However, it seemed like this poster implied there were advantages to drying in the pot. So if the curing isn’t an issue — any thoughts on just drying in the pot?

I mean theres no reason not to. It will take longer for the plant to actually die and dry out but that might be a good thing. Either way, dry it in the DARK. Light will fuck shit up. Also trimming a plant in the pot is a lot more of a pain in the ass....

I think it’s a great idea. On the final days before the final day, just don’t water it, and let it dry up until it’s dry as a bone. You still have to decide if you would trim the fan leaves now or wait until it’s dry dry. It all depends on your drying climate also.

One thing to make sure, see if you can take it out of its container and when it’s all dryd up wrap plastic wrap all around the root ball, if you are going to be hauling this around and whatnot you don’t want bits of dirt jumping up and landing on the sticky icky

I say give it a try. Who knows, maybe the longer drying time would actually make it better than more traditional methods.

Plus that would definitely make a good gift.

It's pointless lmao, it's only purpose is to look cool. Did it on my first grow, never again.
But did you learn something from it? Thats the question. If so, then it was worth it. For example, you found a way that don't work for you. Thats worth it usually.

I get ya... don't disagree at all. I just think it could teach him something. Once I let a skunk 1 go till death just to watch the full cycle. Hella couch lock bud but was nice to see a plant phase I hadn't seen before. Thats all I'm sayin.

Yeah..... same could be done with a photo though. Idk autos taught me bad things. I way underfed my photos first round because autos dont need much feeding. Stuff like that.

I dont grow them anymore. Autos are dirt weed in my opinion. I can taste that rudy gene as soon as I hit it. Don't get me wrong, if its all I got to smoke ill smoke it without complaining, but its not as good as photo.

I'm a salt grower, one of the guys I hang with is an organic living soil guy. I always grow more, but his taste better, hands down. I admit it.

autos were a nice way to get into indoor growing but it tastes like shit. Thats how I know if a guy knows his weed. If he smokes an auto and says wow smooth, he's clueless. If he hits it and says damn.... tasts like shit! Then I have met a fellow traveler.

I'm switching to organic soon. Can't wait. I got nutes for two or three more grows then I'm goin natural.

If you mean I learned it's a bad idea then you can say it was helpful, but I don't think many growers gripe with this. I did it just to take a picture of it tbh lol
