True Canna genetics Terperella - beauty and the beast.

Hello everyone! Not posted on here in a while for various reasons - hope everyone's doing ok. Felt compelled to post this grow after seeing something really quite strange in a phenotype of Terperella from 'True Canna genetics' - Super Silver Haze x Chocolope. It's my first time growing True Canna genetics. The strain was reduced in price on the site I buy from (42.50 from 62.50 - for 6 seeds), and I do love my super silver haze crosses so I went for it.

I have three of them in a 120cm x 120cm x 220cm tent, along with 3 HSO Sugar Breath, 2 HSO OGKZ, and a Yumbolt Banana from Cream of the Crop seeds. The three terperella had a week of 24/0 as seedlings in cup pots under 125w blue cfl, then a week of 24/0 under 400w metal halide in their final 11 litre pots. All the other strains had 1 week as seedlings under the CFL 24/0, and three weeks under the 400w metal halide on 24/0 in their final 11 litre pots. I vegged the indica dominant strains for longer because based on experience SSH crosses can stretch loads (my previous 2 grows included Sugar Punch, and Silverfields from Sannies seeds - 4ft+ pheno in both grows) and I wanted to get as even a canopy as possible.

I kept the the 400w metal halide going on its own for the first week of 12/12, then added a 400w HPS from the start of week 2. At the start of week 3 I switched out the metal halide for another 400w HPS. The tent has been running 800w of HPS from week 3 to where I am now just after week 6 on day 43.

The plants are in biobizz all mix, and have been getting biobizz grow, biobizz bloom, and remo nutrients magnifical.

So, on to the reason for me posting on here. One of the phenotypes of the Terperella is behaving very strangely. I've not seen anything like this in a photoperiod strain in over a decade of growing - and thought it worth documenting as there isn't much information out there about the strain. I did see something similar in an Auto Northern Hog from TH seeds which I grew outdoors last year. Basically the plant is very leafy, is flowering as a female and has for nearly 3 weeks now, but has no discernible trichomes. When you look at her buds up close there is a slight glitter deep inside, but when I look with a microscope the only thing I can see that looks like trichomes are actually on the pistils, and are not fully developed. In comparison her sisters are totally covered in fully formed trichomes, with even the fan leaves having a significant covering. Another difference with the strange phenotype is that it's a runt, and only 19 inches - compared to the other 2 which are 3 feet and 3.5 feet. I did train all three slightly using lst when they first started stretching (after having mad stretch issues on my last 2 grows), this gave the two good phenos a great shape and structure, and turned the odd phenotype into a bushy behemoth.

The two good phenos are really good. One is like a straight up pineapple Cinderella 99, looks like it'll be very quick finishing (9 weeks approx), and stinks like mad of fresh ripe pineapples. The other looks like a decent cross of the pineapple C99 and classic SSH - strong chemical pineapple smell with peppery haze in the background. The hybrid looking pheno looks like it'll take a bit longer to finish - possibly an 11 weeker. The strange phenotype has no smell at all.

I actually have a further two Terperella plants currently vegging. I'm experimenting with mainlining on them. Looks like 2 different phenotypes - so I have an oppertunity to see if I have another one of the strange phenotypes. I'm going to let the one finish that I've got this time, and then decide what to do should I find her again. Strangely it looks like it could just be very slow. I'm holding out hope she might come good in the end. She certainly has the structure to yield. Can't see her taking anything less than 13 weeks though.

Hope you like the pictures. Happy to answer any questions (including on the other strains I'm growing) - and interested on any insights regarding the strange Terperella phenotype. Peace & Love! B

An update on day 51 of 12/12. The strange phenotype still doesn't have any discernible trichomes (not great for a strain marketed as a hash making strain). You can't see anything even resembling trichomes with the naked eye - there is a slight glitter in the pictures though, on the marco shots. It really is a mission to get anything like good pictures, because she's not got a lot of the good stuff to show. Seriously, I've never had anything even close to as dodgy looking as this phenotype in a decade of growing. No smell, no trichs - just loads of leaves and pistils.

I've got two other Terperella in veg at the moment - definitely two different phenotypes. I'm trying out mainlining with them, which seems to be going ok. Be interesting to see if one of those is this rubbish phenotype. My hope is that I have the two good phenotypes. Be interesting to see. I'll post some pictures in due course of the two plants in veg. Here are some pictures of the dodgy phenotype.

Just to offer up a comparison. This is the quick flowering of the good phenotypes. Smells of over ripe pineapples with a bit of skunk/funk underneath it - 8 out of 10 smell intensity (the OGKZ which are flowering in the tent too stink harder - 9.5 out of 10 smell intensity for them). They really do smell delicious, proper juicy and mouth watering. Great structure and looks too. These pictures are at day 51 of flower. She is very reminiscent of the pineapple phenotype from female seeds C99 - but the smell is a bit more complex and stronger than I've got from that strain. Looks like she should be ready about 9 weeks.

You really can see the difference in trichomes between this plant and the dodgy phenotype. This is how a plant should look. I'm reticent to call dodgy genetics when a strain has phenotypes like this - but how can it also contain pointless plants like in the previous post? I look forward to seeing how common the dodgy girl is when I flower the other plants I currently have in veg. I'll post some pictures of the other good phenotype next time I pull her out of the tent.
