Wasn’t sure where to post this but
Just last week was telling the old lady
Back in the day in Northern Calif Mountains there were two kinds of weed here . Brown dirt weed and skunk bud . I havnt smelled a true skunk bud in years . I use to keep seeds from back in the day but life changes . I had hundreds of top skunk and kush seeds . About ten years ago they were all thrown out . I would always rate it 5-10 in high and quality with a small brown paper in the vial . Today while setting up I was looking for my meter and seen a film canister ? Guess what I found 10 seeds with a small piece of brown paper with a 10 on it . Needless to say I’m a bit stoked . Please let it be and let them be viable .
A true skunk actually smells like a real skunk . You could walk in a room from smoking one and you could here people saying someone has skunk bud .
So had floaters this morning?
I got up the nerve and was able to crack one .

They looked pretty good in your pics, in good condition. I hope you get lucky and a bunch pop. Remember the heating-mat, don't let them sit in cool damp because we know where that leads to...
I feel like you're gonna pull this off. Run as many of them that make it to flower. Make sure to take cuttings of all of them, at least two from each. Then, let them all flower, and keep any boys in with the girls and pray you get a shit ton of new seeds. Once the bud finishes, even though it's seeded, you can still tell which bud is the best. Prioritise on the seeds from that stuff. Plus you'll have cuts to run again and get to know them even more - who knows, you may find that unreal rks they're all talking about here
edit:
forgot to say careful not to soak seeds too long you can drown em
cheers

I’ll be stoked to see a root at this point . It’s a long shot but you never know . I did a bunch of reading today about techniques . Got me thinking that squeezing the seed to crack it is a big risk . I’m going to try a jewelers drill bit next round to just penetrate the shell and get some moisture in there then scuff the rest .
thanks for your tip on the mat !

Tomato seeds might help soak them in water overnight then use that water to germ your weed seeds cos the tomato seeds have enzymes in em that can help pop stubborn seeds tbh i have had good luck with old seeds but you do get the odd one too far gone that even if pre sterilised will pop go for a bit then just give up all together this is where embryo rescue could come in handy i have a theory that the seeds like that are a result of the seeds own food stores being used up trying to stay viable all those decades or whatever who knows might not be its just a thought

That’s a great tip ! I seen another grower using dry beans soaked in water to release these enzymes.

Getting ready for try number 2
Have some gibberillic acid coming
Purchased a small micrometer for cracking if needed

plan to crack one
Scarcify 4
Soak all 5 in 1 percent h2o2
Remove cracked seed at 4 hrs
After soaking into a humidity dome
Regulated at 75-80
90-100 humidity

Well I found an embryo floating in the first 5 we tried with a full radical . Carefully removed it and put in coco pre moistened . Fingers crossed !
one thing this has confirmed, these are really old seeds from the past 80s - 90s ?

I have 5 seeds left , been researching for weeks about the best methods before we try again . Just hoping for radicals right now . Just read an article about a famous strain that was rediscovered and propagated from seeds found in a tool box from Michigan from the 70s . It’s possible !

I also have skunk seeds from the late 90's to early 00's. I put them in a small safe which i lost they keys for then found only a few years ago. The bag they were in was somewhat perished leaving them prone to humidity. So i cant get any to germinate.

Stupid storing them in a baggie, but it's like classic cars at the time they are a dime a dozen.

This was pure luck finding these . I always had 35 mm film containers laying around . I threw away a huge bag , a collection of 30 years in the trash about ten years ago . Probably 30 different Indica and kush mostly . I remember being pissed when I got a bag of weed that had seed in it . We would throw them on the ground or in the trash . If we only knew lol

Seeds are long gone, but here’s an old label I still have kicking around. Wish I still had them, cause now I sort of know how to grow them better. Oh well. Edit - just visited the site and looks like they still sell a strain with the same name. These were bought in the late 90s, I believe.

Aloe might help. I will try my next round gerinating in chunks of aloe leaf. It gives them mold resistance and has some hormones or what not in it that supposebly help germination. Never tried it before though. Ill let you know when I drop the seeds next few days.

Hope you get some go to.

I just read a article yesterday about aloe as a rooting hormone . Great option as I have a huge aloe Vera . Thanks

That is priceless ! There’s a lot of skunk branded seeds on the market. None match the smell of the skunk I grew up smoking . I’m not exaggerating, smelled like you had a dead skunk in your pocket . That package is so cool ! Thanks for sharing !

True story. In the early 90s I had a girlfriend from Amsterdam (now my wife). I was sort of happily homeless and was visiting my parents. When I walked in, their house smelled distinctly like skunk. “Do I have a package?”. Sure enough she’d surprised me. Good woman. Naive to send it like that, but worked out fine.

That’s one reason I believe the true skunk strain was lost . If you had one growing everyone knew . Now here in Cali it would be a great stealth . Everyone is growing so having that strain now would be great . Just blame it on the skunks which are common here . Back in the day it was a outdoor that we would get . 1/4 ounce bud corner to corner in a baggie . Back then it was called a 2 finger bag lol
