Saving the mining industry (ie keeping them in business?).....From that same article....where are the metals (Cobalt that he is using coming from?) I agree its cleaner, but again we are going from one raping model to the next. Isnt there a model which doesnt rape the Earth?

"According to research by the broker Macquarie, Tesla alone may require up to 10,000 tonnes per year of cobalt, which accounts for around 10pc of the current global market. Cobalt supply is currently plentiful but the world’s largest producers are located in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia, which are both countries with a history of problem with mining outages. Cobalt prices recently rallied by 10pc earlier this year following news that the large-scale Chambishi mine in Zambia would be forced to shutdown for three months.

Cobalt is commonly produced as a by-product from either copper or nickel. Around 55pc of existing cobalt production comes from nickel ores and another 35pc is derived from copper ores. Leading producers are Freeport-McMoRan and Lundin Mining."

however unlike coal & oil, the metals used in batteries can & will be reclaimed & re-used...and it's cleaner in the long run.

Its just another scam perpetuated by the rich unfortunately. Since I happen to be in a place which is extremely cost effective we pay direct, and we take care of our health closely ;)
