Trying new Vegatative light cycle - VERY ballsy move 8-)

Hey Folks,

I've only grown once before that didn't work. It only did not work because I had to go away on business for an extended period of time and could not care for my plants (two of them). That's alright, cuz I am at it again. Oh BTW, I think this is my first post. I can't remember.

Anyway, you all know that the normal cycle is roughly 16-10/18-6 or 24 hrs of light. I am doing something radically different that I read on another website as an "Advanced Method" to growing veg. This new schedule is closer to flowering light times than veg, however, slightly different and apparently grows better bud. This is not a means to have the plant to grow faster, but stronger.

The cycle is as follows:

12 hrs on - 5.5 hrs off - 1 hr on - 5.5 hrs off A very regimented system that seems to be working for one person. I say radical because I only know of that ONE guy doing it and I'm up to try anything to make my girls produce the best bud. Hopefully, I don't get pulled away for business again. I think I can reserve 4 months without having to travel.

Currently, I use a 250W MH light with 3 plants. I got the seeds mixed up, so they'll be one of G13 Haze, Pineapple Chunk, Nirvana and Wonder woman. One of them is Nirvana for sure actually because I remember that was the last seed for it in the bag, but the rest is a toss up.

-------------

Last time when I grew, I accidentally put the HPS 250W as my veg light and to be honest, I never saw the difference between the MH I am using now and the HPS that I used then. My opinion, just use HPS for the entire cycle as a noob cheaper option. I'm not a fan of CFL. Save your money and get a proper set up instead of these hack jobs.

---------------

Last time, I only used root juice, which is fantastic, and no fertilizers. I never checked for PH levels and always used water from a Brita water filter at room temp. I don't even have a thermometer 8-) I had ZERO problems with discolouration or growth problems.

This time, I bought a Biobizz starter pack which includes root juice, bio heaven, bio bloom and Top Max. Has anyone ever used these before? I actually have a question on when to start the bio bloom and top max. I thought they were only for flowering, but the instructions say to start it at week 3 all the way through and flush for one week.

-------------

My setup is a growbox that was purchased with balast and the works. It's about 2.5 x 2.5 and about 5'5" in height. I still do not test for PH or temp and have a carbon filter as well.

I'll try to update this with my results. Right now, the plants are all 1 week old, but seemed to had sprouted at different times. One seed popped in less than 24 hrs, the second took a little over 48 hrs and the third took 4 days. I had to plant them fast as the first one was already popped and spit out it's shell almost before the third one cracked. I wanted to plant them at the same tie, but you can obviously see which one is the faster grower.

I put them in soil (normal store bought 20 litre bag) on Monday and today is Sunday. I will try to post picks and possible a video to make a video blog. This is a new light cycle that has not been documented before, so I figure I'd try to do one.

IF this works, the advantage is 50% less cost on your power bill.

and 50% less yeild and 50% more stretch of the plant, and 50% more wear and tear on the light bulb that is turning on and off twice as much. not to mention the possible fluctuation of your temps during the lights off.

but good luck and keep us posted.

I got a reply from another forum stating that this isn't as radical as I thought and this light cycle is actually very popular in the medical marijuana grower industry. It does save on power consumption and the extra turning on and off lights does not wear out the bulb. The 1 hr in the middle prevents the plant from flowering.

The yield, I don't know, but will update you on my findings. I think it just makes a stronger plant so both yield and potency will turn out better.

Edit: It actually cuts veg time by 25% and increases product (yield) by 25-35%

Flower cycle 10 hrs on 14 hrs off

Second grow after a first failed attempt and you want to do what? :wall:

The first failed attempt was not because of the light. I had to go away for 3 weeks. The plants didn't survive. This had nothing to do with the cycle at all.

People on this site hate different methods as much as they love to flame. I don't see any issue with this because, lets all be real, the sun (at least where I'm from) is never out 20 hours, and is generally out around 14 hours a day. I don't see any issue with this assuming your lights are very powerful while they are on. I would say 1000 watt bulbs. As long as the hormones don't build up to flowering levels I don't know the issue, any stretch could just help open up the plant so inner nodes get more light.

The real question is are you planning to use gillerbic acid? The spelling is prolly wrong but you could google it an still find, it will make your plants grow considerably bigger, faster and prevents seeds. I'm not saying that your plants will hermi, but light leaks are a big concern and your creating a hour of it. Some strains may handle this well though.
