Greeting to all!
Looking to find a true breeding phenotype Panama Red. USA delivery. With the Viroid issue looking for reputable breeder. So far my choices seem to have mixed reviews seed bank or breeder. They are,,,,
Herbies selling "Ace" seed genetics I believe.
Or Ace seeds
Anesia genetic (can you suggest good USA vendor)
Reeferman/ Old school breeders assn.
"Reeferman" being name used for Dave Charles Scott/Scott family farm. Some web controversy observed. Links seem to dead end (I do not do facebook)

Best wishes for your gardens! Be well Shane

I thought of Ace immediately as well. If it makes a difference NASC sells Ace now as well, and is US based.

Sorry to tell you....Panama Red is long gone -as are ALL the old landrace strains. Unfortunately, people can call anything anything they want these days. I learned this lesson the hard way. Everytime someone claimed they had Acapulco Gold or Panama Red or Columbian Gold, etc. I took the bait....and never once was any of it even close. It's just a name game. If you weren't alive and smoking those strains back in the 70's, then you will have no reference to go by -other than an old, historic name.

I HAVE seen some new strains on the market -most are from Iran (Indica) or SE Asia....one from Laos that actually looked like a sativa! But they seem to sell out very very quickly whenever they are released.

I grew the Drawoh's Chocolate Thai F5....It was nice...not the Thai I remember from the 70's though.

The Hazeman Drawohs thai has been mixed with some indica genes, not a fan of that one at all. I have some Double chocolate thai (Drawohs x old school heirloom chocolate thai) going, its about halfway through flower, dominant scent is vanilla, followed by what i can best describe as perfume.

Well lets start with the hardest to find most expensive :
1) Snowhigh's Double Panama
2) Snowhigh's other phenos of Panama Red
3) Cryptic Labs Panama Red
4) ACE Panama
Double Panama IIRC is a cross between '74 Peace Corps & Red Cross stock . Snow has various phenos of Panama Red . Considering it's an equatorial sativa , if it flowers in less than 16wks it's not pure . Double Panama runs 20 - 26wks . ACE Panama runs 10-12wks . Even though it's claimed to be pure sativa with flowering time cut in half , there's indica in the woodpile . Probably like their Malawi it's been hit with their PCK ( Paki Citral Kush ) .

I forgot to add Snowhigh is where Double chocolate thai came from, not cheap at all, but you can tell the quality of the plant is worth it to me.
I wanted to get one of the Panama selections from him as well

Yeah that's what I heard, too. I was expecting a really tall, wispy kind of plant with not dense buds at all. What I got was a plant that grew short and produced "baby arm" kinds of buds. It was also ripe at 10 weeks....which it should not have been. I will say that it does have a strong straight-up marijuana smell -not lemon, not vanilla, chocolate or anything else.

I'm going to try the landrace Laos strain if it comes available again.

Vast difference . For the average hobby grower probably not worth the expense , time . For breeding & / or something you want to keep around or you just insist on best possible example different story . For avg joe who just wants something acceptible to smoke then ACE or even more affordable Exotic Alchemy .

I started 6 or 7 of the Hazemans, only one was narrow leafed, and the others weren't the sativa type wide leaves, but the short chem shaped type leaf. Mine stayed quite short as well, very bushy, really short arms, not sure how to describe the smell at all, but it doesn't smell anything like Double Chocolate thai.

I recognize the shape of this male in the Double Chocolate Thai as being that of Drawohs, looking exactly like the narrow leaf Hazeman i found, except for not being a stunted looking plant like Hazemans.

First thanks to all whom chimes in so far!
Tstick point in post 5, yessir alive and smoking in the 70s! Mostly Mexican bag weed but best memories Columbian, Panama red etc.
Boatbum325 post 8, bonus thanks on breeders. Do you happen to have trustworthy sources for USA shipment? North Atlantic does not carry Panama Red presently (my go to place for "souvenir "collection).
Boatbum325 post 11 YEP that's me. For those who missed my introduction will take a moment to get acquainted. Good description Old school boomer who is enjoying added cannabis aspect to 45 year vegetable gardening hobby. Quality and novelity my goals. Cry once type purchases (look for sales always welcome). No need for huge yields and no income needed for hobbyist . Just want PRIMO end result to stifle my wifes shock when looking at $ spent at grow stores.
Will try and stick to the elusive Panama Red, enjoy the part hobby trying to ferret out something rare.

not the Thai I remember from the 70's though.
Damn shame greed hybridized out all those great old strains. And yeah, they got more stupid ass lamer kiddie names for smoke nowadays than one could've ever thot possible. :(

Hence your name, "tstick" or thai stick. Yeah that bud bamboo wrapped on a bamboo stick was special. I never had Panama Red that i was sure. I have had acapulco gold back then along with colombian green, gold, and i think it was either chocolate or brown colombian. The last qtr pound of weed i had for an interim of 25 plus years was colombian green. I got busted for sales of 7 grams. Smoked the rest, never lit up again for more than 25 years until legalization. It was some of the BEST STUFF WE HAD. Took us yanno, 6 months or so to wade thru it. That was '91. I could even concievably have a seed, one seed, from it or something. But where? Wtf knows.

For Snow's stuff takes a bit of looking & prices vary sometimes quite a bit . Only reliable place I know for Cryptic Labs is Pro Seeds in the UK . Also carries Mad Mac's Haze work . ACE has 3 or 4 US distributors & as Panama is one of their main lines shouldn't be hard to find .

Thanks boatbum325 for added input. North American seed co a ACE distributor. Maybe they can order the Panama red as low-cost option until better choice becomes apparent.

Enjoy the day!

North Atlantic seems to stay out of ACE stock more often than not . Well Grown Seeds has a limited selection but is worth a look . Multiverse leans more towards Fems but does stock regs , has frequent flash sales worth getting on mailing list . Another option is Coastal ( Kagyu ) has a Panama Red IIRC an 18wker , supposed to have a pretty good CBD %age like 7% . Not always but high CBD usually means low potency . Many hashplants have high CBD ratios / low THC . Seed Cellar rarely has much in stock for ACE .
Snowhigh's gear is becoming harder to get . John's health is declining & he's been selling off stock . Much is getting long in the tooth , germination can be an issue , is very much in demand & considered collector gear . Seed auctions probably best bet for aquiring if serious . Depending on strain / genetics it's not uncommon to see a 5 seed pk go for $ 1 - 300 . As stated previously Snows Panama Red is IMHO the best existing example in seed form . Hope this helps , good luck with your quest & it's easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission . She won't forget , but hopefully doesn't stay pissed that long . Not often one gets a shot at those kind of genetics .

Go straight to Snow. He'll work with you and give deals based on what you are purchasing. Still pricey but talk to him and see about putting a package together.
