TV on PC

Ok, I love going down to FLA for part of the winter, but I miss cable TV. And I can't get service down there without paying an arm and a leg.

Sooooo, my question is: Is TVonPC any good? Can I get live football and other sports? Does anyone here have an opinion. If it is really good I'd drop cable in a heart beat.

Any suggestion would be appreciated, since I'm not a techie.

Edit: I didn't know where to post this. Plus, I thought that everyone here is more versed than I am.

It's a scam? Too bad. I was hoping to watch something other than what's on local TV which really sucks in Fort Myers. Their news people are horrible.

I'm going to be spending part of the winter in the fort myers area as well, and I was wondering the same thing.

Do you get the local channels for free? Do you have an antennae?

Are you saying that I can get these for free without paying for the software?

Yes because even if that wasn't a scam all it would be is an index of publicly accessible streams.

hq-streams.tv looks promising for live sport streams but again I just don't follow the sport streams so you are basically on your own with finding a good index of streams.

edit: there is an icefilms plugin for XBMC though it is more for TV shows and movies then live sport streams. EZTV is bittorrent and not streaming.

I dont know zip about TV for PC, but if you already are an HBO subscriber, you can get HBO Go on your PC for free and see any of the made for HBO series like ROME, SOPRANOS, SIX FEET UNDER and so on. Google iy and fill out a simple form and you're on.

CW

any old 19" B/W with a Digital converter box ($40 or cheaper) and a over the air HD antenna ($25) can get you up to 25 channels or more in central FL, including FSN and all the regular nbc, cbs, and abc and their analog and digital stations

monthly cost = $0.

But as "......" said p2p is the way to go....you can find a torrent for any sport out there.

Comcast is killing me too...it's all I can get out here though unless I want dial-up internet and a local generic cable company with no real channles...I just started looking into PC TV , but I want the football games

Icefilms.info

Doesn't have anything live, but has everything else that has been on TV... 99% are in HD and in the 3 years I've been on it, I have never come across a dead link.

niiiiiiicccccceeeee buddy, thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

I feel there is no sense in paying for cable or satellite when you can just get the internet at a decent speed.....and the world is at your finger tips.

lol ice films huh.. that's the same agency that closed down the other TV links sites(ICE).... IRONIC!!

I wish they had all these streaming things way back when. My dad was always ahead of the technology scene and installed an actual television reciever in the computer. Same thing with the whole 'internet/pc screen on your tv as a monitor' thing- he'd incessantly play with cables and leads until he got it and now half the tvs come with all of that built in. He's kind of kicking himself now.

However, I've yet to see a computer set up for you to play playstation on it. However we couldn't get PS2 to work with Windows 95 -_-;

As for the tv, I've found it's easy enough to google the specific programme close to airing time for active links. Alot of channels have dedicated streaming and catch up/on demand services.
