After a large number of cancer and seizure patients and their relatives lobbied in January, they claim a number of representatives said they would support medical usage. Then, a couple weeks ago, about 300 more volunteers arrived in nice, professional looking attire (NORML told everyone attending to dress like they were going to a serious job interview) to speak to every state rep they could find about the serious impact legalized marijuana could have on the state for the better. And, this is the first time these bills have actually made it to the floor for serious discussion. Normally, when they're proposed they're killed just as quickly.

It's still an uphill battle, but a number of Texas politicians and activists have been preparing for the 2015 legislature for months now (even Rep. Simpson hinted that he would be introducing this bill at a Tea Party meeting back in early January...a Tea Party meeting, people!). So, it's an uphill battle that the pro-legal lobby has been preparing to fight for a long time now; and with a majority of Texas voters on their side, we may get a surprise ending.

Libertarians opposed the Obamacare thing because because it was a massive intrusion into ones personal life, finances, privacy, personal choices etc.....not because they are closet kluxxers. Don't believe the meme. Hell, I am a weed smoker AND a Tea Partier, AND a gun owner, and I am not that special. Big Mommy govt is my worst nightmare. I am a libertarian who wants to keep the Republicans out of my bedroom and the Democrats out of my wallet...and keep both of them the fuck out of my stash box.

Don't know Simpson or anything about him, but I bet he is more libertarian than Republican.

I hope he really rolls with this. Let freedom ring....(or at least, let it make that quiet crackling noise you hear when you torch up a bowl of good smoke... )
