using a light mover

tomorrow i am picking a light mover i found on craiglist for a steal. i have never used one before so i am wondering how big of a grow area can i make now? i have 1 1000w hps light that i use for flowering. its a 6 rail so would a 6x8 foot area be to big. 6 foot wide and 8 foot long. reps for all the help

i'm using 1000w's on light movers. they cover a 4x8 tables well. they can travel farther but if your ventilation goes thru you lights the extra ducting can be a pain in the ass. and dont buy hydrofarms flex tube(it sucks)just go to your local HVAC store, has nice stuff and cheaper price!

i use home depot all the time for many things. pretty much everything. just because they throw hydrofarms on the label they seem to double the price. like timers. brinks makes a timer you can get at walmart kmart or any other mart for 5 bucks. it does every 5 minutes if that is what you want.,,lol...so i shouldnt have a problem using the light mover to cover a 6x8 area running the mover the 8' way. i feel i could fit alot of plants in an area that size. and just think it scrog it how many will fit.....lol.....

well on a 4x8 table SOG(right size and strain)you can get like 200+ plants on the table! you should be able to quite a few SCROG!

Why not just buy another light? Light movers make little sense to me. They cost a lot for what you get and they give your plants 50% less light since 50% of the time the light is covering elsewhere.

i am getting a mover for 50 bucks. by the time i buy a new light even used for that matter and run it. your doubling my electric bill doubling the heat. and besides cheapest 1000w light new runs about 500. so for the 50 bucks i use the mover. and from what i have read using the 1000w hps i can get it closer to the plant with less heat so even it is getting 50% of the light it is still getting 500w if you look at that way with only half the heat and closer. so it would be better than using a 400w on 1 plant. if works as you say 50% of light 50% of the time

light movers absolutely have applications.
i use one with a 600w light in my rectangular flower closet (6' x' 3' x 6')

also, i totally agree with the poster who mentioned issues with the air-cooled hood.
i am still trying to find a way to make that work properly given the height in my grow area.

a new build out to a larger room ( 9' x 6' x 8') still includes the light mover over 7' of ebb and flow table.

i do have another 3x2 table that will get a fixed light.

i think:
you can save on amps with a light mover...which is important if you're limited
you can save wattage with a light mover
you can run a powerful lamp closer to the plants cause the light isnt concentrated in one area
you get a more even canopy

my experience says the light mover works.

too, i think your method (sog, scrog, trees, etc) plays an important role.

i'm into SOG ...so a mover really works for me.

i mostly do lst. i find it works best for me. i enjoy bending and tying and just seeing how much i can get out of one plant by pulling it open and giving it move veg time than most people. i see alot of people like to give it 4 maybe 5 but i have gone as far as 8. i would run out of room in the flower room and have to let them go longer. now i am going to put in the light mover i wont have so much room resrictions and can go at 4 weeks or so. i have a few ideas on the fan cool hoods that i am going to try and if it works out i will let you know. also i was talking to my buddy and i was thinking using the light i was going to make a rotating stand for my plants using a christmas tree stand. so not only will my lights be moving but so will my plants giving all the plants lower and upper areas different angles of light. just going to try it out on a few plants to see my results. jus tthink about it for a minute and tell me what you think. a rotating plant stand spinning and then the light moving. wonder how it would work out. only one way to find out.

I've just started flowering with a light mover, covering 3' x 6' with a 400 and 600 HPS. The mover really isn't necessary, because those lights can easily cover that area by theirselves. I have the rail set to move only 10", back and forth,(no shady areas) in hopes that the different angles will help increase yield. I suspect it will.
