UVB Reptile Bulb

Hey guys, I was looking into UVB reptile bulbs and I found these:

Mega-Ray EB 60 watt Flood UVB Lamp Kit - ReptileUV

I was going to attach it to a 4' light track and have it travel the length of the grow space. The spread pattern is pretty narrow but thats why I would move the light.

Anyway, tell me if you think it's worth the $180, thanks!

they produce a shit load of heat though.
The website says:

This 60-watt energy-efficient bulb produces very little heat.
Once the trichomes begin to cloud over, its time to stop the UV-B, since the trichomes are no longer magnifying the light towards the disc cell, so no more THC is being produced and the THC that is there will begin degrading.

Also, I've heard it recommended that you don't leave UV-B on for more than 4 to 6 hours a day. Most preferably, have it turn on three hours after the 12 hours of light has started and turn off 3 hours before it ends. You have to be careful because too much UV-B will harm your plant, and of course how much you actually leave it on will depend on the grow room and the amount of UV-B the bulb is producing, so essentially it just takes some personal experimentation to get right. :)

I just saw the attached photo of the spread pattern. That looks sweet (not sure exactly what it means regarding growing, but it still looks sweet)

Noticed you were going to have the light moving too. Kick ass! :blsmoke:

I use this light to warm my jackson, she uses the heat to bask. So it's up to you, I'm just stating facts. You may be using a different type of UV-B light then I'm using, so no probs man. Good luck. Hope it works out for you. Just to let you know, my light put's out a shit load of heat, just FYI.

I just got the standard lamp, I have the Zoo quality one on back order and it really doesn't put out much heat at all! I'm impressed, but they did say on the site that it can't be used as a heat lamp.

I think that instead of using an expensive light mover, I can use the cone spread pattern to my advantage... I can just mount it horizontally, keep it on a timer to be on about 3 hours a day, and simply move it upward as the buds grow. Would save me a lot of work...

I will keep you posted!

Please do! I like this light compared to the others that I have seen because it actually tells you what the output is, with the spread and everything. It'd be really helpful in determining some actual information on how much is optimal and everything like that. Someday perhaps my friend will try it out! :)

High...

I grow DWC/SCROG in a box in which the grow/bloom area from screen to ceiling is 4.5 feet.
It is 4 feet long and 2 feet wide. The res is partitioned off and cooled seperatley from the bloom area, light is air cooled.

I'm willing to try UVB.. What can I loose? A few dollars.

But I flounder about where to mount it. Maybe on the oscillating fan!

Is it feasable to mount the bulb facing the ceiling, not on the fan, (mylar/panda) and effectivly reflect UVB down to screen/budtops? 4 feet!?

The other thing I notice about these bulbs is: as one reads about each individual bulbs, 60, 100, 160, etc. they all seem to put out the same porportion of UVB. Am I high?.. yes!
I'm pretty sure I read it that way.

Actually, I believe if you mount it aimed toward the ceiling, reflected back down toward the light, it would travel too far to be effective. You say 4 ft so I'm assuming you mean 4 ft from the bulb to ceiling and then another 4 ft to the plants... even 4 ft would minimize the efficacy of the bulb let alone 8ft with losses. The intensity of UVB rays produced by a lizard lamp falls exponentially as you move away from the bulb. At one foot you may get 200uW/m^2 but at two feet you would get only 50uW/m^2. Hope this helps :)

How long should we use these uvbs on our plants in a 12 hr cycle. I have 7% @ 300nm, 20% @ 315nm, up to 18" away.

I've been running mine stepping up to around 8-10hrs so far with no negative effects at all......how much is too much, and how will i know if its enough??

plant seems to have more growth with the light on rather than off, as i've seen. I turn it on 2hrs after it wakes, till about 1-2hrs before it sleeps.

I'm just not sure if its really helping ALOT or any really, my first grow, and ~28days flower or so....showed hairs 4-5day ago.

Tks BMan.. I was guessing that it wouldn't work. Same as any other light then.

Maybe mounting on the fan is the answer, if the the little shit will carry the weight.

Still improving the 'inner earth', I'll get that that bitch in there.
