vac seal in jar

If it's mason jars you can just set them in hot tap water for 5 min then screw on the seals and lids tight and the vacuum that forms when they cool will seal it up fine. Doesn't have to be boiling hot water like when you use a canner. just use a new seal with each jar. Your pot must be worth that much. :)

:peace:
I'm looking for -29.9hg

Are you sure that a Mason jar will hold up under a complete vacuum? Anytime I've played around with vacuum pumps in school the glass dome was about an inch thick.

What about using oxygen absorbers with a food saver? Seems like that would leave you with about what you're wanting.

I don't mind squashing buds, I use aluminized mylar bags with oxygen absorbers. Buds look fresh and new for 3yrs or more on the shelf.

so as a newb, I have my weed in mason jars, no longer burping after a 2 months.
how long will the weed be good?
curious because I always quit consuming for the summer and have 11 jars (just under a pound)

I didn't vacuum seal or "can" it with hot water, just stopped burping and tighten the lids.

I wasn't clear in my op, too stoned. I was talking about using the foodsaver mason jar attachment in conjunction with food safe oxygen absorbers. Vac most of the air and oxygen out then drop the absorbers in to deal with the rest. Without oxygen the oxidation should be minimized.

But I've got 3.5yr old buds bags in aluminized mylar bags (non vacuum sealed, impulse/heat sealed) with oxygen absorbers, still looks like new and taste the same.

That's the preferred method of doomsday type preppers.

I've kept buds in 1/2gal jars for 1.5 years before. They definitely aged and bronzed a bit but stayed good smoke.

Perhaps you are over thinking it. Put your nugs in a container, eg.plastic lunch box without kid. Place in Vac machine.. Voila! No crushed nugs.. Could even work with Mason jar, sans lid.

I find it stays good for about a year if you store it in a dark and cool place. Sometimes I freeze a jar to keep it longer

Sit the Kilner jar in hot water leave a few minutes then screw the lid on, once it cools it creates a vacuum that'll suck down the lid.

If it's been mentioned then ignore this lol.

No need to vac......just seal.
I have a question for you as you are directly addressing an issue I’m having. I’m trying not to squish my buds so you’re saying DONT vac the bag just seal it? And how long am I to let it sit sealed in the bags before it’s ready in your opinion? Also what is the best storage option? I’m a new grower so I’ve been so excited seeing what I’ve produced lol I’ve been getting rid of it prematurely because it’s been pretty good right off the vine. Anyway I want to produce A1 quality and the squish has been a bit of a problem. Quite obviously I’m vacuuming my cured buds and as of now I store in my bd rm closet. So far quality is good but maybe tips in this area can help me make it great

I vac seal and freeze but the trick is to first put the product in a plastic freezer bag. Manually suck out as much air as you can And then put in the vac bag and seal. Whatever air remains in the first bag will keep the product from being squeezed into a brick under vacuum.
To clarify, you place the freezer bag inside of the vacuum bag and them apply vacuum and seal.

Cheers.

So what's the point of vacuum sealing the second bag. There's still air in the first bag. The point of using the vac is to take out the air...

The air doesn't oxide marijuana, oxygen does.

Drop a couple food safe oxygen absorbers in the first bag before sealing.

There is minimal air in the first bag and the point is to prevent crushing/compacting the buds..

Cheers.
