I see a few posts about desktop vaps, but has anyone used the portable pens? If so, what brand?

It all depends upon what you want from them. They all burn pretty well, both herb and oil, but they generate heat via a nichrome coil which must directly touch the oil or herb, and gets too hot over too small an area, and ends up just charring your herb or 50/50 burning/vaping your oil. They are quite quick and convenient,s o if you dont mind hot metal taste and arent looking to vaporize, they are good. just get a generic direct drip ecig, its cheaper than brands like the trippystick or atmos etc, and all those branded vape pens are just cheap ecigs rebranded as vape pens anyway. If you want a good portable herb vape, I recommend a fritted glass disc and bowl, or vapor genie, or iolite whisper. None are pens or electric but they do actually vape and are still quite portable. For oil vaping on the go, I recommend a wand/concentrate bowl or fritted disc.

Check out the link in my sig for a full run down of all available types of vaporizer, portable and stationary.

I have an Omicron that I have been using with oil or wax. It works quite well, I am seeing 3-400 small hits off a gram. You have to melt the wax to load cartridge. It comes with filling tool which is a funnel....heating and loading the cartridge is the toughest part.

It will clog from time to time, but priming it will usually clear it. I have to replace cartridge this time around but was able to run 4 grams through it.

I think they are not for everyone, not anything like pipes, but I have it with me on road, etc and awesome to medicate quickly and safely.
