Man, any updates? Feels like it has been a while since we got one. Hope all is well, peace!
Yup I'm still here dealing with all of life's little dramas. The cab build has slowed a bit. The plants though are doing well but still having some issues.

After seeing a few of everyone's cloning ops (like Joker), I've gone to downsizing the container back to one of the original shoebox size containers I originally purchased. However, I kept with the standard and built a special cooler and lid from rigid foam (pics up soon hopefully). Still using 2" netpots I can hold 14 clones at once! After 8 days, I'm down about 5 clones, but the rest look great and possibly close to roots!

The reason for the switch was the amount of water in the rez. The larger rez was 4 gal or 9" deep to keep water level close to roots and was a bit excessive. Plus this little rez is easier to move around by 24lbs, especially lifting it 6' up into the top chamber.

So on my Sunday morning inspection I noticed some yellowing leaves and then suddenly those familiar little black spots...spider mites AGAIN! They looked like they hadn't set up shop yet (no webs built) but using my 4x magnifying glass I could see them moving around. I sprayed the crap out of them using the neem oil solution (that stuff smells really good!!) making sure the plants were drenched.

On my evening check everything was dried off. It looked like the top of my resevoirs had been sprinkled with pepper with all the dead mites that dropped off the leaves!! I checked the leaves and found a few of them still surviving, so again I drenched the plants down with neem oil. I ended up doing it a third time as well! Seems like no ill effects on the mums or the clones so I'll just keep doing what I'm doing only spraying when I notice new bugs. It's been over a day and none yet so fingers crossed.

Instead of going on vacation this year, life decided to schedule surgury to remove my kidney stone next week. So the family has just been hanging out doing local "cheap" tourist stuff. We might be able to squeeze in a camping trip depending on my recovery. The location of the stone isn't conclusive (possibly stuck in the uretur) on x-ray so the Dr isn't sure if they are going to blow it up with sound waves or go up (the long way) and retrieve it. Not something I'm looking forward to! :(

I've got some work on the cab scheduled over the next few days so hopefully some more updates.

peace

Hey gamber, glad to hear from you! Glad to hear of your success with the clones. You know I'm following another thread where they are using honey as the rooting gel and comparing it to clonex. Right now the honey clones look better after about 4-5 days. Just a thought, and you prob don't have to buy a thing.

Hate to hear bout the surgery. I'm pullin for you to get the sonar blow up method

Hey GB point me the way and I'll have a look-see. Not sure I'll change anything until I actually know what's broke. ;)

Here's some shots I took just before I took cuttings on 7/25. These ladies have been through a lot at this point just recovering from my last bug infestation. BTW, the bugs were what ruined my last batch of clones.

Larry OG - I think this is the fourth set of cuttings I've taken.
CIMG0347.jpg

Kandy Kush - I got a couple clones from her this time. Hopefully one will become the new mum because she is tired.
CIMG0349.jpg

Cherry AK-47 - She finally took off so I topped her and cloned it. I think it's one that's still alive!!
CIMG0348.jpg

Larry OG Clone - Okay don't laugh but this is my first fully surviving clone. I wasn't paying attention and it got a little stretchy. I cut it back down and made two clones out of the center stem. She has a nice root ball going as well.

AND

One week later. The orange arrow are the first root bud forming.
CIMG0352.jpgCIMG0353.jpgCIMG0354.jpg

Here's a shot of my new cloning rez.
CIMG0356.jpg

And the mums. Notice how dull the mylar is after all my dousing with neem oil.
CIMG0357.jpg

And the chamber
CIMG0371.jpg

It's interesting to note that each batch of clones has had to suffer some sort of major catastrophe. This is my first batch of decent clones so just waiting for roots to pop and then another week and... Getting ahead of myself. One day at a time.

hey gamber, looks good man, real good. i know what you mean about changing something that aint broke!!! here is that link though if you want to peruse. it started on the 31st of july, so if you just wait 10-14 more days you can ust skim over it for the highlights, or you can visit with us! http://speedyseedz.com/forum/showthread.php?1389-Cloning-Compound-Experiment

hey, i wanted to ask you if you have grown soil before or not, but not for the reason your thinking. I am becomming interesting in DWC!!! and wanted your opinion of it. i know you have had issues that you have since learned to fix and overcome. I may try to do an indoor tomato plant in a DWC this winter to learn and get a feel. problem is I think i have some bad water. my plants no likey, so I will have to work out some sort of filter/distiller of some sort, and then all the PH UP's & DOWN's, and a bunch of stuff. i was also curious if you have grown soil before if you could tell me which one is harder for you. thanks gamber, and keep up the good work on the grow, one step at a time. remember fall will be here before you know it!!!

I've never grown weed before in dirt, just regular stuff like tomatoes, strawberries, pumpkins in our garden. Stuff the kids think is cool to grow. Lately we've been growing herbs (oregano, basil, parseley, dill). But nothing serious as far as ferts or anything. In fact yesterday I mixed up a gallon of bloom nutes and went out and poured it on the tomatoes (which are just starting to turn red). We'll see.

My deciding factor was vertical space for ScrOG. Dirt would have eaten up another 4" for me with pot sizes.

Are you sure your water is bad? I've been reading lot's of articles lately about H2O2, Chorine regarding water purification and such. The Al B. Fuct opinion is "as long as you will drink it, it's fine for the plants". We have a fish tank so I test the water for Nitrites, Nitrates and Ammonia as well as pH. My water out of tap has no Nitrites, Nitrates or Ammonia, is 7.75 pH and 440 ppm which I'm going to assume are trace minerals which may be beneficial to the plants overall.

Chlorine is a water purification agent which can be removed with H2O2 which also has benefits for plants.

Regarding pH, since I start high, I use pH down. If I get too low, then I just use my tap water to bring pH back up. :) So if your tap water is low pH, then buy pH UP and use your tap water to bring it down.

Regarding nutes, what I found with my Techna Flora nutes is that they are EXTREMELY stable. Once I get pH dialed in after a rez change, it never moves off by more than .1 or .2 over a week's period unless something else bad is going on.

I too want to try strawberries. 4 years ago our local Strawberry farmers had a banner crop. We were buying fist size strawberries which had sugar crystals all over them! They were the sweetest damn things I ever had in my life. I figured hydroponics would be the closest I could ever come to achieving that!!! Go for it, I'll help you through!

Bottom line, I think doing trying a different method will make you an overall better grower be it soil or hydro. Hydro seems a bit more fussy to learn, but once you get temps and pH dialed in I think the two are just as easy. Also there is something about seeing plants growing in water that is just amazing to me!!

thanks gamber! i think my water is bad because it is very hard. i need to have a test done. i think the trace mineral may be good, but too much or one could be real bad ya know. i think i may have that problem. i need ot have it tested. i will call my county, i am sure they can tell me. i will definitely hit you up for advice when i make a decision, it will go a long way. i have to get through my current problems first.

Hey GB try going online to your local water district. They may have the annual water quality report online like Irvine Ranch Water District does in Orange County. My report show all the bad shit in ppb and ppt and even those numbers are like .01ppb. Like I thought the rest of my 400 ppm is just the regular hard stuff like calcium, fluoride (naturally occurring) and other stuff like that which is either beneficial or inert.

Thought it was time to give a status. Had surgery on Monday to remove my kidney stone. I'm not sure I'm happy overall. Doc said after they put me under, they did not find any stones on the x-ray. So he decides to send a scope up the pipe anyways to check it out?????!!!! WTF?!? He said he still couldn't find anything. I've been peeing up blood and chunks for 4 days since this procedure was done because he wanted to "check it out". If I had been awake I would have told him to stop and get a Cat Scan or something else before you send a camera and probe up there! What I don't understand is why I never saw this massive thing leave my body! I certainly hope it's gone and I'll definitely be looking for a new urologist soon if it's not.

Okay you didn't come here for that shit. You want to see plants!!! After two weeks I remain bug free!! I guess I had to go through a generation of left over eggs. I must have hit something right because the mums all exploded with new growth!

Here's some shots after the latest hair cut and cloning. Far left, freshly pruned mums, middle, new batch of clones, far right are 4 rooted clones almost ready for flowering!!

Mums and new cuttings.

Make sure you check out the updates to my cabinet build. I've been working on AC and ventilation. I'll have some new ventilation pics up later.

Sucks to hear about your surgery but it sounds like everything else is getting back on track. Can't wait to see those girls slut themselves out. Been waiting a long time to see some bud porn.

Took a look at your build, things are looking real nice. The a/c is looking good as well.

yeah, the water from my tap, which is a shallow well because the city has not brought water out as far as I live, ph's around 4, maybe lower. i may still try and have a sample of my water tested, to see how much "stuff" is in it. i am not sure how i will fix it on a permanent basis, takes a shit load of ph up to fix it.

Yeah and pH Up isn't as good as pH Down from the plants standpoint. For me if I get too low, I just add back tap water. You may just have to do RO after all. For my setup, each large rez takes 3 gallons and the new smaller clone rez takes 1 gallon. So it may not be too bad from a cost standpoint as long as you don't go with the 40 gallon coolers like bb57.

Thanks Bro! You and me both...kind of tired congratulating others!! :D :D j/k All you guys keep me moving!

Just days away. Since the cab is gonna have day and night now which limits tinker time, I have to get as much done to it now! Wait until you see the ventilation scheme I put in! That will be up soon. I have a few more light leaks in the back that need to be taken care of and then I want to run the chamber for several days before sticking plants in there.
