veg with 14-10 light cycle?

Long story short, I cannot really ventilate more than 14 hours a day so my lights must be off at least 10 hours. Will my seedlings start flowering on me with this cycle? If i put a small cfl to extend the lights a few hours more, will that keep the plant "awake"?

They'll likely start flowering at 14/10, I use that cycle for 7-10 days or so before flipping to 12/12 when i want stretch. By the time i flip to 12/12 they're showing flowers developing, not recommended unless you're ready to flower.

yeah, i agree.. must people use 12 / 12 for flowering because it's easy, and it works for pretty much every strain, but 12 hours of darkness isn't really what's needed to trigger flowering in a lot of strains, and fewer hours of darkness might make them flower...
umm, yeah, a small cfl in the grow would be plenty to keep them from flowering though..

Run your flower interruption light for thirty minutes to an hour in the middle of the night, so that the plant sees no more than six hours of darkness at a time. Make it a bright light so there is no question it will interrupt the plant's dark cycle.

Or a small 10-20w LED. I've been using cheap Wal-Mart brand par led bulbs. 13 w for rooting and establishing clones. 17 maintains the bonsai mom's.

This is the standard, but there are many variations on it. Don't let your plants see more than ten hours of uninterrupted darkness or they'll bloom.

There are lots of ways to work the details out. The 'gas lantern' technique mentioned above is one way to keep plants from blooming.

Another is to run six hours on, six off continuously. This allows you to run another veg room on a flip style schedule if you have heat or power issues.

Ok, so what I'm going to do is really simple: put the hps on for 14h and keep a 23w cfl on 24h. I will only keep a small fan running during lights off. Do plants need a lot of fresh air during lights off or i can get away with only a small fan to move the air around? Hopefully I can veg 2 to 4 weeks more with that. They wont flower now anyway they're way too small (4 nodes).

you could always do gas lantern. 12 on - 5.5 off - 1 on - 5.5 off. It works.

This is no doubt your best option for veg!!!! also keep in mind that if u cant ventilate for that 1 hr on, your plants can handle 1 hr a day at 90+ degrees (depending on strain) with little to no stress, if its for only about 1 hr. Ive had strains that straight loved 85-90 degree temps in veg as long as they had plenty of water and airflow (oscillating fan) and most strains don't mind it for an hr or less. Ive never used the exact schedule recommended (thought im sure it works), it is a proven veg method and truthfully your veg temps are a lot less important than flower.
