Anyone have any idea why my butane extraction is so dark? It looks like a scraped a pipe and its left over resin. I am getting a fair yeild from one can of gas.... about 3-4 grams from 1oz trim.
Im grinding trim in coffee grinder tell almost powder. Using a glass tube and silk screen. And using a glass dish and power 5 butane.
The stuff I see in the stores is amber in color or even popped looking sort of like packing foam. Popped stuff is at the clinic on holly street in denver. They took number one in the high times medi cup so if there's looks like that then I would also like mine too.

My guess is it's because you are grinding your trim to a powder. You are almost undoubtedly getting some (or a lot) of plant material in there, as opposed to just extracting the resins you want.

Try only using a regular grinder, one you would use for grinding up some buds to roll a joint. It will chop it up, but wont turn it into a powder.

You are probably going to get less finished product, but it is going to be much higher quality.

#1 you have to get cleaner butane. Pure butane has a very low liquid density and will pass around the plant matter extremely fast.

#2 dont grind your trim into powder. contact time is the key, now how you break it up. when i make oil i make it with chunky trim broken up by hand. DO NOT PACK THE TUBE!! put the trim in the tube lightley to allow the solvent to pass around the plant matter. THC is on the outside of the trim. chlorophyll is on the inside. you DONT want chlorophyll, thats what turns it black, then green......

Purity > quantity. it takes me like 3-4 mid cans and 3 OZ's of trim to make a 10 grams of golden honey oil.

Well its a awesome honey. I had it tested by full spectrum labs in denver and it was 69.3% thc so quality isn't really the issue
Im thinking like a few have saying d that maybe grinding it into powder isn't best. Will grind up in grind a zip tonight and see what happens.
Oh and power 5 butane is great stuff btw. I think this is what its made for and its what most stores here use to make there stuff

this is exactly your problem.. your getting way too much plant matter in the oil, and not just thc..

the thing is, everyone here is saying the exact same thing. you need to grind it less, and 69.3% isn't awsome honey, its just oil. average "honey" oil is 80%+ THC with 2-5% CBD. the resulting 15% is plant waxes (which is unavoidable).

YOUR oil is 31% Plant Waxes and Chlorophyll.
thats not great oil. thats resin.

take everyone advice and dont grind your plant matter up as much. otherwise your just going to be playing with more resin.

Well put. And when you do your next batch, and it comes out much cleaner, try comparing the tastes of the two extracts, as well as the intesity of the high. Guaranteed the new stuff will taste better, and "should" probably get you higher (or at least a cleaner high) since it will be more actually extract, and less plant material.
