I ended up getting a reducer 8 to 6 at home depot and it ended up sliding right in, i used some duct tape to seal if off, you know the one that looks like foil. The new phresh filter is bomb no smell leak what so ever.
to anyone reading this looking for a filter, give the phresh a look. Its a bit pricey but well worth it, i belive i payed 180 with taxfor the 8 in x 24in
750cfm model.
imrunning it with a 440 cfm fan on the lowest settings
