Want to be weathy? I have a simple idea!

I've been really thinking / reading / watching lectures lately, and I've kind of come up with a different way to look at things.

Instead of thinking about money as something that you spend, think of money in terms of income-over-time. So, you could say you make 6k/month or $200/day or whatever. Now, try to do the same thing with your bills and debt -- for example, you have $60/mo on a chase card or $100/mo for a cell phone.

Now, here's my 'trick' -- try to do / buy things that boost your daily/monthly income. This might not sound like much of a trick as it is a no-brainer, but it seems like most people focus on shit that just increases their money, not their money-over-time. If you get hired to do something, or rob a bank, or win the lottery -- you're getting money. Generally though, it's money-over-time that gets you rich, because money is always spent over time.

And if your wondering why I'm posting this here, it's because I know there are a few people on here that will come into 5, 10, 20k+ paydays, and probably buy shit like cars and houses and what-not. Nothing wrong with that, but maybe also look at doing something like starting a business, buying a business, buying real-estate, hard-money lending (high-profit, low risk loans people use to purchase real-estate -- the loan is secured solely by the down-payment, which is like 40-50% of the loan), ect. Whats really cool is that for certain things (business purchases, real estate purchases, ect) you can get loans with pretty decent terms -- $10,000 might not sound like much to invest, but if you can turn it into a $100,000 rental property with a $90,000 mortgage, it's not so bad. Maybe you pay $800/mo for it and get $1,200/mo in rent -- now your making an extra $300 mo, have an asset and a tax write-off. (there is also the weird fact that rent adjusts to inflation while the mortgage payment is fixed -- if you hold the property for 20 years, the rent might be up to $2,200/mo, but the $800/mo will only increase a little bit, for property tax and insurance)

Guess the biggest thing is just be careful how you spend your money or you'll never have any. 200 million-dollar lottery winners end up broke, factory-workers end up millionaires, some of us will probably end up in jail, but hopefully a few will get what they can, while they can, and turn it into a good life.

Good luck guys.

Your idea is great but not relavant to minimun wage workers
Yeah, if you aren't making like 15/hr you might as well sell drugs, job hunt or try and hook up with someone with money. Doesn't mean you can't get ahead, just cut your expenses, protect your credit, try to hit people up for contractor type work till you can get a real job.

Minimum wage is for people who are dumb / lazy -- it's almost impossible to spend 8 hours trying to make money and make less than $64. I knew a guy that would get laid off and just drive around neighborhoods until he could talk someone into giving him a few thousand for a roof or fence or whatever -- you could panhandle more than $64 if you spent the whole day at it...

i commend what you're saying but those who REALLY started life have already taken and ran with this concept.... once a lot of us realize that momentary pleasure is freakin non-sense (well not non-sense but not worth putting most of your funds into an item that will depreciate over time) and realize bills are forever and never stop generally use the concept you mentioned to generate a better income/lifestyle

I hate the grammar police, however for someone who is calling a vast amount of people dumb/lazy who make minimum wage without taking into account life circumstances (mental issues/medical/family/background etc.) I will make an exception. Before you call someone dumb, maybe you should try to avoid sounding dumb by checking the title of your brilliant thread. "Want to be WEATHY? I have a simple idea!". I had to laugh when I read this, why is it that 95 percent of the people on the internet who call others stupid or dumb misspell something very important, like the insult itself. look around yourself for other attacks on the internet, it seems to be a universal rule.

And no I am not personally insulted by your post. I do not make minimum wage and carried a 3.9 gpa in computer science. I just think its kinda odd to generalize about so many people and have met many good hearted people who make minimum wage. This is how I judge people, can I trust them? Will they stab others in the back? Do they have a good heart? Things like that. Not by how much they make.

Not sure why your associating good character with making money or intelligence -- my point is that, if your goal is to make money, working a minimum wage job is a really bad way to accomplish it.

I couldn't* care less about missing a character in the title.

you must live in a country where minimum wage is low. here it is not it is 10.50 an hour which is liveable .
However calling people who work 8 hour days on minimum wage lazy and dumb is the complete opposite of what they are. They are obviously people who go to work 8 hours a day to support their lives so how that is dumb or lazy is beyond me. Ontop of that most people who work min wage are usually in college bettering their lives or cannot find a job in their perspective field.

So these people in your life that you have spoken to, who have gone from minimum wage to making good money, what was it that they did to get out of their hole?

From those who I have spoken to and my own personal doings, I can say that college was very, very rarely the answer. Learning a skill/trade seems to be a much more successful route to take in finding better pay and less hours. Many trades involve labor rates of over a 100 per hour. If you own the business, that hourly rate is all yours if you do all the work, so making a lot of money fast while starting a new business is definitely doable if you can keep a full schedule. After a while, build a crew while continually generating more work and this can translate into work weeks that you don't even work, and a lot of time with the family. You are probably never going to get that working for someone else, even with a college degree.

Just be smart when building your business and don't build the entire thing on your own back. If your presence is required for the business to operate, you fucked up. The whole goal should be to generate income while NOT having to be there to do so.

because of this quote from you, "Minimum wage is for people who are dumb / lazy " are these not bad character traits. Seems like Sunni picked up on it too.
