Want to build my own LEDs, any recommended text you guys consider reading?

Want to build my own LEDs. Any recommended text to understand the fundamentals of LEDs? I'm currently in the process of getting a EE bachelors but yet to take higher up EE classes. I am down to read thick and dense text that will help me understand all fundamentals LEDs.

I don't want to be falsely convinced by swayed advertisements of American companies or buy cheap Chinese products.

If you're working on your EE bachelors, you should be learning about diodes in circuits 1. Definitely a bit dense reading for the amount you have to know to power LEDs.

Diodes are non-linear components and thus do not follow V=IR, but instead, an exponential relationship.

In short, for the LED you want to use, find it's characteristic curve on the datasheet and from that, figure out what current you want to run it at, and find the associated voltage from the characteristic curve..

The way most people here go about it is to look for a constant current supply that can run within the voltage range required.

So if you want to drive an LED (or array) with 1A of current at 30V drop, you will need a 1A supply with a max output voltage of 30V or higher.

LED Packaging for Lighting Applications: Design, Manufacturing, and Testing by Sheng Liu and Xiaobing Luo- Actually I haven't read this one but it seems very complete in it's scope.
Practical Lighting Design with LEDs by Ron Lenk and Carol Lenk- Good, practical and easy to find ;)
Nitride Phosphors and Solid-State Lighting by Rong-Jun Xie, Yuan Qiang Li, Naoto Hirosaki and Hajime Yamamoto - Excellent info here.
Thermal Management for LED Applications by Clemens J.M. Lasance and András Poppe - Haven't read. YET
