Wanting to grow in my garage but temps get -20 Celcius in the daytime

Like the title says, temps easily drop to -20 Celcius in the daytime.. My garage is insulated somewhat but not great.

I think once an atmosphere of 20C is reached it won't be too big of a deal unless someone needs to get their car from garage.. I might even keep the heater in the tent to be more safe..

The ONLY thing I'm worried about is power outages. I plan on grabbing propane heater that can work for 6 hours but even that isn't a guaranteed win, power could go out at night and I think my res would freeze.

What do you guys suggest? Should I just forget it? Or do you think the atmospheres will be OK for a few hours on their own?

If ya due cold weather ya might aswell rent another house for the amount of electricity it will cost ya to keep a garage heated . Haha, no seriously just build a room inside of ur garage, insulting the stud wall is a must , be a goon idea to insulate floor and ceiling too . Good luck

Maybe insulate the grow room and duct it into the house

2 birds with 1 stone . Vent into ya bedroom , cosy nights sleep . Better still , add a Y connection, bedroom and living room

Thanks, I think this route would be the best bet but I don't own the place... I guess I'll just do garage in the summers only.

Grow tent is currently beside a furnace so I'm tryna move this shit ASAP

Yeah as long as you have plenty of air movement inside the tent, this should work pretty well. Putting old blankets/towels over the tent will help hold heat in too. I would only attempt this doing a soil grow.

-20 is quite cold. One malfunction and it’s all toast. What if you get some ducting from a warm part of the house and send it to the tent.

Yeah you're not wrong, would this solve the problem if I pull air from the house lol? wont that still not work unless the power is on?

i think I'll wrap a 5x5 witha shit ton of blankets and cross my fingers, if it breaks down at least I tried.

any grow can fail from one simple issue. Doesnt mean you shouldnt try.

Run your lights on cycle at night for the heat output during the coldest times, if you run reservoir you can heat it with and aquarium heater so the root zone temps are solid. Run a smaller heater during lights off and insulate the best you can. Rentals are tricky.

nice idea, I'm hoping if anything water will be too hot, im going to surround the whole area with blankets and i have a chiller so the more heat I can capture around the res in case of a power outage im good.. Going to run the heater on an inkbird set to 24C.

Makes sense but it's good to plan ahead... I'm really only worried about a power outage for hours while I'm asleep. This is a pretty specific time frame so hopefully, I can just get through one winter without any BS

I can keep a 5x5 area under control easily in those temps. Just look at it like an igloo. The light and heater will be more than enough. Blankets are the safeguard

You will have a good enough challenge just keeping them alive , with out thinking about the power going out. But try it for sure.

Ok instead of using electricity, use the heat from the house. Do you pay the heat bill? If it’s free heat then get some ducting and crank up the heat. Have it up against the wall connected to the house. Insulate it up against the wall.

If it’s free hot water Run some hot water lines all the way to the tent and use them to warm the area.

Thanks for the suggestions but I'm not very handy like that.. I have an idea. I draw passive air from the side where my house is (not drilling any holes or anything, but should help get maybe .5C of warmth). Then I wrap the rest of the tent in a few duvets.. Should work just as good as any old insulation... This plus a heater plus hella blankets on the floor I don't think can fail, as hippy as it is.\

Gonna keep my fancy readers and chiller inside so I'm not risking any real fuck ups. This is just temporary as well.

I got a solution for you. Have a friend that grows in a garage. It gets to -40c to -50c over here. He Insulated the garage, built a platform 2x6 and Insulated that with rockwool (my idea) the grow area is another room just a bit smaller of the garage. (If garage is 22x26 it's 20x20) he has some heaters outside the grow area to heat the area. Inside the grow room it is sealed runs co2 etc. Its a very nice setup

-20 that would be difficult and expensive but doable imo (I've never experienced - 20 fwiw)

I don't think a night out would be a major problem so long as you can keep the temps above freezing at least.
Draw air from the house and maybe make a kingspan/insulated room instead of a tent.

Christ , if I was that keen to grow abit of weed in those temps I would use underfloor heating on every wall , ceiling and roof plus kingspan . Cost a lot of coin mind

Nice idea, I might be able to build something out of 2x4 and plywood and insulate it but at that point do I even need a tent anymore lol?
