Watering and drainage question

I am not sure if I have proper drainage for my 1gal pots in pro mix/perlite. I see a lot of people on here saying they water every 2 or 3 days. Also that it is best to let your pots dry right out and then give them a good soaking. There is no way my pot is dry enough to need water after only 2 or 3 days. It takes about 6 days to dry out. Is this too long. Does that mean the roots are sitting in water this whole time which would not be good for them? I am moving them to 5gal pots pretty soon and am wondering what everyone does for better drainage. More perlite? Rocks in the bottom of pots?
Thank you

the amount of water used depends on a lot of factors besides drainage (air temp, relative humidity, size & health of plants, etc.). I would wait to water until the top surface is dry.
