Weed smells really "planty"

Hi everybody hows it goin, so im new to the whole grow process but i feel that I did everything right, and shit my bud looked really nice as well I did do a lot of research before I started. So heres my problem I started the plant I just harvested from seed a couple months back, I dont know exactly how long ago I lost track of time. I just harvested it 3 days ago and yes I did do it at the right time I believe, I looked at it with a 100x microscope and everything. So I cut it from the bottom of the stem, clipped all the leafs surrounding the buds and hung them upside down in a dark closet that fluctuates anywhere from 60-70 degrees during the day/night. When I walk into the room to check on them it smells very strongly of a skunk, aka good pot!! but once I get close to them and smell them they have a very "plant like" smell and its kind of freaking me out. Im going on a vacation in a week to the mountains with some friends and wanted to bring the bud, does anybody know what the smell is?? and does it sound like it could ruin the potency? even if its full of milky and amber trics and lots of red and milky white hairs?

Just don't allow the bud to get too dry since that makes your bud unable to release the chlorophyl properly and inhibits the thc conversion process.

im going through the exact same thing as we speak.. it always freaks me out even though i know its just the chlorophyl sweating out like everyone says... buds smell soo good growing and as soon as i chop em, barf city.. i've let them hang dry for about four or five days than i just put them in an airtight jar around two days ago that i let sit for an hour closed, and then i open them for a half an hour to allow the air to exchange and start the process all over again.. after about a week or so of burping the jars so often, you can let them go longer in between burps, and then just eventually stop burping them all together...
after two days in the jars, that yucky smell is starting to go away, and they are slowly smellng better with each passing burp..

Thanks guys, Just got a little freaked out! The buds look great though! looks like someone rolled them in sugar.. If I smoke a week after harvest, if i follow the hang dry/burping technique, will it be bad smoke??

you need to research curing. Once you have dried them to the point that the stems snap instead of bending, you need to put your crop in airtight containers (mason jars), and put them in a dark place. Take the jars out twice a day, and open them just long enough for the air in the jars to be cleared out and replaced with clean fresh air. It is correct, you are removing chlorophyl and other contaminants from the smoke. This is where the majority of your flavor comes from, and also where the harshness is removed.

Next time, completely flush your plants twice, one time each week before harvesting and it will cut down on the time it takes to do this. Also, quit giving them nutes once you start flushing.

The process of drying and curing goes through cycles of dank and not so dank and sometime hay like. Completely normal.
